I have a 89 searay 250DA. the boat is new to me. I went to check the ac, turned it on the blower blows waters running threw the system but the compressor does nothing. checked all the wires @ compressor and all have 120 volts. so does this mean I need a new compressor set up? or is there another test I could do to confirm. if its the compressor where is a good place to get one.

thanks
Dave

If it's low on freon the pressure switch will sense the low pressure and prevent the compressor from operating. If you need freon that means you have a leak it may be a very slow leak and a freon charge may get you through a couple of seasons. If you're lucky.
Or you may need a whole new unit if you're not lucky. My 98 270DA has a AC/Heater, when it goes I will replace it with only an AC unit. This is a lot cheaper than a cool/heat system and if you can live without heat on your boat you can save some bucks.

can I jump out the pressure switch to see and what kind of freon does it take r-12 r-22 can it be converted to 133a
thanks

Running the compressor with low or no freon can/will destroy it. I have shorted the switch on my car's AC in the past for a brief second just to see if the clutch pulled in but this has no clutch and I'm not sure how long would be too long to test the compressor with no freon. T%here should be a tag on your AC unit telling you what type of freon I don't know about converting it. Maybe someone with more knowledge about these whacky marine AC's will enlighten us.
