HELP!!! 87 268 Sundancer out drive trim position gauge wiring

Hi guys
I have the above mentioned boat and I have repaired the outdrive trim position sensors wiring that had the usual corroded and broken leads ( Mercuiser) One of the original owners fixed it by just removing the two leads inside the engine compartment:smt101 Now for the life of me I cant find where they connect to the wiring? The trim limit wires are still in the original place and connected, the trim position leads have 2 eyelet connectors so I know they have a terminal somewhere but where????

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Congrats on getting it to work. Why don't you post your solution so others who may need the info in the future can reference your post.

I have to apologize, I actually looked around my boat for you a couple nights ago and forgot to post. There is only one set of trim wires that came through the top of my transom bracket. They go to a plug that connects to the trim pump.

Glad you got it figured out.

Hey guys I'm having what seems to be the same problem any info would be appreciated.
I have 88 sundancer 268 with a 7.4 that i picked up last fall.Never had it in the water yet Trim and trailer switches work fine. Trim gauge stuck on full up. Tested gauge and works fine. Found trim sender wires coming through transom and zip tied to engine bay harness not connected to anything. For the life of me can't find where they would plug into.

I believe the wires you are talking about plug into the trim pump.

I have 2 senders mounted on the left and right gimbal ring. The trim limit switch is mounted on the port side, trim position sender is on the starboard side. Trim limit works fine. Wires come through stern drive on port side and are connected to the trim pump. The sender wires for the trim position wires come through the stern drive and are not connected to anything. I have checked what wire diagrams I could find and they are saying that the engine wire harness should have 2 bullet connectors that come out of the harness that the wires from the trim sender wires plug into.

Yes mine was the same, I didn't have any bullets either. I cut my trim gauge wire before it went into the engine wire loom and attached to the trim sender wire then the other sender lead to the engine ground and now it works!

Good luck

This was bugging me to no end. After some serious web time I found it. Come to find out that every wire diagram I could find shows a direct run from the dash gauge to engine wire harness to the sender. My boat is equipped with a MERCATHODE system. The wire diagram for this system shows the trim sender running through the MERCATHODE and that's the only diagram that shows it. The wire from the gauge ppl/white goes to the engine harness 10 pin main plug and changes color and runs through the MERCATHODE and out to the trim sender.

Thanks to everyone for great feedback !!
Happy 2016 boating !!!!
