Hi Guys,

Noticed water in the bilge this weekend, and discovered a leak coming from this when the engine was running:

The water appears to be coming out around where the lower hose is connected to the black box with the label on it. Shouldn't there be hose clamps on those? Neither engine has them. Could they have forgotten them? On both engines? Any idea what this piece is? Is this a fuel pump? Also, the water lines are pumping salt water.

Any thoughts?

I would send those pictures to your Sea Ray dealer. I imagine there should be double hose clamps on those!

No hose clamps needed there, They are crimped ends I believe, Then the water hoses have quad rings at the end's that go into the cool fuel base tank, Also there should be a good amount of perfect seal at the end of the hoses and inside of the base tank where the hoses go, Then the hoses are held in by the nut in the center of the bracket of number 7 in this link below.

If you have an 08 boat, are you still under Mercruiser warranty?

Just noticed Mercruiser has a service bulletin out on this.

Service bulletin # 2009-01, It looks like they are going to barbed hose fittings instead of the Quad rings, You will need a new fuel tank module.

Cool Fuel 3 fuel coolers, my guess. These have huge corrosion issues. See the dealer.

Thanks for the tip. I understand they are gonig back out to the boat to replace the hose assembly and check for corrosion x 2 engines. There should really be a an official thread just for the 8.1's as so many people have them. Information such as this should be posted, and any other design flaws the everyone needs to be aware of, so people know what to be checking within the warranty period. I believe much more service work would be done if people know what to look for, that they could get taken care of before they go out of warranty. Maybe there is one, I'm not sure...

Thanks again!

Kevin
