I'm looking to change my spark plugs this year. Any recommendations on a type and brand of plug to use.

My initial spark plug change out was with AC plugs. After 30 hours, my fuel burn started increasing. I'm trying the champion plugs now. Just changed them a few weeks ago. My fuel burn is back to the normal rate.

Merc calls for AC 41-983 plugs with a 0.060 gap.
the NGK equivalent is their 7862.

i used the AC when I changed mine out.

I've put about 30 hours on the champions. When i put the boat away in the fall she was still running great, making WOT an fuel burn was optimal.

Before the change i had the AC's in there and port engine was running rough, not making WOT. As you can see in the thread posted, the AC were shot. I really need one more season on the Champions to give accurate feedback.

I've mostly stuck with the AC plugs that came in it from Mercury. There was one season that I switched to a cooler Champion plug trying to correct a run-on problem (turned out to be the throttle was not shutting completely). I generally stick with the manufacturer's recommend plug unless I am trying to correct a problem. Good ideal to at lease pull the plugs every 100hrs or so - a spark plug really tells the story of how the engine is running.
