I have scored out raw water pumps and after changing impellers it's not pumping. I have looked on CSR but couldn't find any information on the elusive wear plates. In speaking with a local shop, they have a set of SS wear plates. BUT, there was some comment made that they shouldn't be used in OE pumps. They are a Quicksilver part but I cannot find it anywhere. I also cannot validate its right (625-4246). Hardin Marine has replacement wear plates for their pumps and a comment on their page says they can't be used in OE pumps. I'm not looking for Hardin plates.

Has anyone used Quicksilver plates in their OE bronze pumps successfully? I see threads referencing the plates it but I don't have confirmation on specific parts or where to find them.

Thanks!

Old original gen 7 brass pump is a throw away. Merc then came out with a different pump that uses the wear plates and uses a different impeller as well.

Is there a year that switched or an identifier on the pump? I had a friend who went the plate route on a 496 same year as my boat. I've since lost touch with him.

mnm99 - yep, saw that on ebay too. I decided to switch gears and go to rawpumps.com. They completely overhaul raw water pumps with new seals, bearings, etc. Their prices are VERY good - more than half of new. You order new pumps and they give you a return label to ship them your old pumps. Fantastic company to deal with.

Seals and bearings aren't your problem. Even if they give you wear plates your still dealing with a brass bore.

Ditch the brass get a SS Harden.

Understood.

The Harden SS pumps had a rash of bearing issues and seal leaks. Has that been resolved, haven’t paid close attention in past few years since moving away from IO boats.

That was on their original design. I lost seals and bearings in mine. I do impellers every other year and just completely rebuild them at that time. The new ones are their gen 7 plus. Double bearings and double seals, suppose to be much more robust

I've actually have had good luck putting wear plates on the original brass gen 7, but wouldn't go that route now

Yup. I had no problems with the Gen7 for like 4 years. Not one leak. I just sold both with pulleys and bought the Gen 7 Plus because of how well there built. I liked the 40% larger bearing and double seals. Last pump I’ll ever buy.
