Hi, I am in the middle of replacing the manifolds and elbows on my 2004 340SDA 8.1's.
I referenced the Merc Service Manual #30 that I have but apparently it is an older version (dated September 2000) that included the deprecated Water Rail. I am looking at this info:
and have a couple of questions...
1) Looking for an update/verification of the torque specs
Manifold to Head
Studs to Manifold
Elbows to Studs
2) Update of thread sealants.
I understand 271 is pretty much permanent so should I still be using this on the manifold to head bolts or use the 242 (or some other sealant). I am thinking I need to keep the 271 on the studs to manifold for elbow.
3) Lastly, while in there I am replacing the plugs. What would you recommend on the spark plugs? I was thinking Permatex Aviation Form-a-Gasket (80019). Other suggestions please.
If you happen to have (or have a link to) the update manual I would deeply appreciate it if you could share.
