Yes I have! Mercury Vessel View mobil. It's relatively plug and play. Look on your engine cover 8.1S. It says smart craft on a sticker.
In 2001 the harness was dressed with a foot long pigtail that goes no where. It can be found near the oil remote corner of the engine. Packed in with other smaller harnesses. Got to dig a little to find it. Take the pigtail off and it should have a purple 10 or 12 pine hole plug. Later years the pigtail has a yellow cap and might be just under the engine cover.
You'll need the can wires that plug into those for both engines. Those mate together with two junction boxs which I mounted on the firewall. Couple a plug resistors and dust caps along with a bridge harness to both boxes. Then the bluetooth VV.
Single engine just one of each that I described and done. Plug and play.
Twin there is one last step. You'll need a mechanic with his laptop to smarten up the engines. Ie. telling each one that one is Port and the other starboard.
With the app on your mobile device you may need to block some sensors your boat may not have. Like fuel tank VV sensors or trim tab sensors. But all critical sensors on your 8.1S will show up on your device. Google vessel view mobile for visual or you tube.
I get every digital thing you want even mpg, gph. You can manually set gallons on board and it tells you burn and remaining. The list is extensive even true engine hours.
If your engine alarm goes off it will throw a code in simple English what's wrong. No more translating repeating beeping sounds or hunting a gremlin.
Cost was less than 600.
I use my cell when just running for a few minutes. But longer trips I use a 10" Samsung tablet with a suction cup back mounted on the side windshield next to the gauges. Easier to read and Samsung gives you GPS that drives mpg. Others may not.
