hello all, i am new to CSR, however not new to boating, spent my entire life thus far on boats. i recently finished an 89 cobia spirit2 1950 resto, and a 68 alura flybridge resto, and have always wanted a searay, finally found my project boat, a one owner 78 srv240 SDB. that has been sitting in a barn for the last 25 years. the previous owner said the boat needed repowered, put it in the barn and never got to it. so now its my turn. going with a new merc. 260 5.7L. i have pressure washed the teak and seems in fairly good shape with only one trim piece on the back of the cabin needing replaced. the bridge has been taken apart by previous owner. (plywood shot) i am also removing the carpet on floors and wall, v-birth roof, and replacing it with a viynal, i have seen a few owners of this model searay, and was looking for some advice or things to lookfor on this perticular model. i have checked the stringers and all appear good except for the one going accross the back of the fuel tank however i dont believe the tank is leaking, i will be performing a pressure test on the tank to make sure. also the head has been gutted by the previous owners son, (no idea as to why) if another owner could send me a pic as to how it is supposed to look i have been unsuccessful at finding one online. again thanks in advance for any info.

uploadfromtaptalk1345245464572.jpg can of worms opened! Check! Fuel gauge stuck at 1/2 so i checked. . . Yep bout 30 or so gallons of gas been sitting in the tank for the last 26 years. So got it flushed out with water, now gotta get the tank out and pressure test it. Thinking of just replacing it with a plastic tank from West marine. As experience has taught me on the 68 alura I restored it was a pain to flush out both its 70+ gallon tanks. To the point I just replaced them with plastic ones.

Can O worms getting bigger, back wall on cabin had some rot at the bottom and I didn't much like the yellow shag carpet everywhere so cabin gutted, goin to replace most of the wood with white plastic wood, last forever and no paint needed. Also gonna poly all the teak trim outta the cabin while I'm at it.

Doing a 1979 240 SRV Hard Top right now so I know where you are coming from. I just found a 1973 240 Weekender that the guy was parting out and I was able to get a lot of good parts from him to use. Nice to have extra railing, trim items and some teak.

I have spent a lot more time that I first expected and I don't even want to think about the money but it has been fun and still have a long way to go. In the end though we will have a great boat that is done the way we want it and at the same time keeping those classic Sea Ray lines.

STRINGERS BAD ????
or the transom ???
those aren't bad to repair if it's just stringers.

Stringers are bad, transom haven't checked yet, up on the bow the whole deck is shot, had a soft spot so i pulled the port hole trim and the fiberglass is separating, and appeared to have had water leak into it at some point, wood rotted, I found another boat identical to it with a fresh motor, just needs a outlive, which I currently have, just gotta get time to go check it out.

yup...thats a walkaway
sorry for the loss...maybe some parts can save another

Do you have a fiberglass liner (floor) or is it the wood and carpeted floor?

I was told by someone that has worked on these that if it had the glass floor there were not any stringers forward of the engine, that the foam was the structeral support for the glass liner. I have the same boat in a hard top version and can not find any stringers forward of the engine but now you have me wondering and thinking I need to keep looking harder.
