7.4 MPI only starts with throttle half or more

Can't get he easy to start 1997 330 7.4 LX MPI to start like it should. Just installed a new fuel pump but did not solve. Engine will run good at 1000rpms or more. Initially the engine shut down due to overheat and probably vapor locked. Could not restart til next day. Impellor is good and have not run the boat enough after replacing the fuel pump to see if the inital issue repeats. For now would just like it to start like it should. Sounds like the IAC (Idle Air Control) valve. Do a search on IAC (Advanced Search in the mid RH corner of the screen). Lots of posts on symptoms and fixes. ($100 and 10 minutes) There is also a small filter that needs to be changed.
