7.4 liter port engine white smoke no water out off exhaust what causes the problem???

This Sundancer went in to the water last weekend when i started the engines they both took water for cooling.
after the engines where on temperture i go for a ride 4000 rpm after that port engine gives white smoke and no water anymore just a little when i give trottle.
What Causes the problem??? think there can be several.
I Thought about Head gasket blown out but everyone says No they think the impeller. What do you guys think.
Engine was never overheated only a little higher temperture as the other one.
also there is no white **** on the dipstick Oil. Oil is Normal.
Please inform me.

Sounds like the raw water pump failed. You need to have it rebuilt. The kit is about $100. Labor is going to be lots more because the pump is in a location that is difficult to service.

If your normal cruising RPM is 4,000, you are pushing those engines far, far too hard. Running them that hard will fail them prematurely.

I just had all my impellers replaced. They were three seasons old. On our boats it is recommended to remove the entire pump assembly and then service it out of the boat while you also check the housing for scouring. Even taking the pumps out is not easy. The marina mech had to losen the mainlift mufflers and move them back to get to the pumps. They sit in a nasty tight space just inside of the stringers.

MY SR shop charges $256 per side for parts and labor (impeller kit was only $36 per side).

8.1 has different impeller kit than a 7.4 8.1 is $36(only has impeller and a o-ring) 7.4 kit is $100( has impeller,plastic housing,metal plate,all bolts and washers,quad ring)

Today i will service the raw water pump and see if he impeller is no good.
later today i will give the results.

Hello People,
it was the impeller totally gone.
i put in the new one and the cooling system works again.
but now i do have allready the next question.
4 blades from the impeller where off ...one of the 4 i found was still in the housing... where are the other 3.
waiting for answers.

The other vanes are in one of the hoses or coolers between the pump and heat exchanger, or in the heat exchanger itself. There's no easy way to find them except by taking the hoses off each cooler and looking for the broken off vanes. A small mirror, bright light, and borescope might be helpful.

Just as a note ... I don't know how often you service these, but I replace mine every three years. That way you will not have them fail and don't have to disassemble the cooling system to hunt for shrapnel

Today thursday i have no time to work on the boat. Friday i will check and i will inform if i do find the vanes. From now on i will change every three years the impellers. Thank you all for the information for sure we will meet again here.

hello Guys,

I checked the hoses last Friday but i did not find any vanes, the temperture off both engines ist the same also the risers have same temperture.
think the vanes are crusched somewhere and took there wat out with the cooling water.
Now hope for better weather here in the Netherlands.

Think you are fine if temp stay the same, but watch your temp the coming time.

Good chance the missing vanes will be in the entry to the oil cooler located under the port manifold.Thats where I found mine.
