7.4 horizon HP?

Can someone please tell me the difference between the 7.4 horizon and 7.4 mpi Please. Is the horizon 380 hp?

My 7.4 horizons are 380hp. I always thought horizon was used in inboards and merc in i/o, probably wrong though

I believe horizon is Fuel injected while mpi is multiple port injected or throttle body injection.

I don't think there was any difference in the engine, Horizon is the name Mercruiser gave to their inboard engines, they had closed cooling standard. The 7.4 MPI was the sterndrive version that did not have standard closed cooling. Both were MPI / multi port fuel injected vs throttle body fuel injected.

I think I've noticed you looking for the same vintage 340 as us so likely asking for that boat? If so, from what I can tell the mpi of those years is 310hp and rwc while the horizon is 380hp and fwc

OK so the 7.4 L came in three different versions 330 horse throttlebody injected which I have 340 hp multi port injected and 380 hp horizon all those hp ratings are at The crank though you do see at some point mercury started using horsepower ratings at the prop that's why you see a 310 hp version out there which is the 330 hp just had both of my motors rebuilt to factory spec and they made 330 hp on the nose on the Dyno I hope this helps

FWIW, my 01 Horizons are rated at 380 hp. They're definitely MPI, rather than TBI.

I have the 340 HP MPI injected versions. They carry the Bluewater label, which also does not have standard FWC.

Now I'm curious about the boat you're looking at... any hints?

OK looking at a 2000 340 dancer. Needs a good cleaning but many upgrades
