I currently have a 6hp 4 Stroke Tohatsu which is very weak in power on my dink. It will plan with one person but if you add another person there is no way. I'm thinking about getting a Tohatsu 9.8HP but wanted to know if there is a big difference between the to. Has anyone made this change between 6hp and 9.8hp?

No personal experience, but that's a 63% increase in HP....minus the effect of the added weight.....so I would guess you'd see a pretty good increase in speed.

Decrease 3.8hp from the 6 hp (2.2HP) and that dink wouldn't plane if it were remote controlled with nobody onboard.

i have the 9.8 Tohatsu OB and it works nicely. My dink weights 119 Lbs and it will plane with up to 300 lbs of passenger weight. ive gotten it to plane with 400lbs of passenger weight but its not easy. Its a great OB in my opinion. Lots of power for only 80lbs.

I am in the market to buy a inflatable dinghy. I am going to get a 9.9 hp outboard. I am torn between the Zodiac and Sea Eagle. Which would you choose? Any suggestions?

I have the 6 HP on my 9.5 and it is underpowered when 4 people are on the dinghy. Of course, the advantage is the weight so I'm going to keep it.
