Mercruiser I/O
Hi...new member here with a request for advice from the board members. I bought this boat from the original owner here in Washington. It is a high-option '66 SRV 170, triple blue with curved-glass windshield...a beautiful boat. The 110 hp Mercruiser i/o engine is tired and the outdrive is too; it never was equipped with tilt/trim. I would like to repower with a new engine/outdrive. Would a such repower ruin the value of this boat? What are some practical options? I would like to be able to use this boat a lot as it has a great hull and is built like a tank. Any ideas are welcome. Thanks. - Jim

I cant answer your question about the value after repower but I can do this...

1.) Welcome to the board. 2.) Thanks for posting the pics, the boat looks great. 3.) Hang around a while, some of these guys are good, real good. You'll get the answers you need.

Welcome again. Be safe.

That's pretty cool. Nice old boat.
Check out this thread. He has warehouses in Monroe, WA and would have a nice Merc 3L and Alpha combo for you.

Great boat, If you up grade you have keep the steering wheel and gauges.

Thanks for the responses everyone. Budget on this project is a bit open...I'd like to find a good deal; does the guy in Monroe have a ph #? I've even considered the new turbo diesels from Merc...small, powerful, good cruise range.

Either way, I agree with the comment on the steering wheel and guages...they will definitely stay.

Wow... that boat is sweet. I wouldn't mind tooling around in that. I'll bet you get a lot of people looking at it where ever you go. It reminds me of 65 Buick that a buddy of mine once owned. Same colors and all. I swear that GM used the same upholsterer as SR that year.

Welcome to the board!

Michael

brute66-
sweet looking boat. I was leery reading that you want to pour all that money into such an old boat, prob. wont get it back on resale, but then i saw the pictures - it is a pretty sweet boat and appears to be in superb condition! it must have spend a lot of time in a barn or garage to have that great looking hull and vinyl. when you get that thing done lets cruise for babes and booze!
