Looking at the 270 DA in 1990 and 91 the beam was at 9' then 92 they went to 8'6" beam does the 6" make any difference. 6" can be huge depending on what your measuring.

The 1990 270 was rebadged the 290 in 1992. I had one and loved it.

Big block and an a Onan gennie.

I've heard that 6" of beam feels like an additional 3' in length... Plus it'll be that much more stable.

Wider is better we had a 28 footer with upper and lower helm that was 10.5 feet wide. Compared to the 9.5 feet beam boats it was much bigger inside.

I have the 1990 270 and love the size, I trailer it where I want, and also like the dinette that I can sit at without breaking down the V berth.

The trailering , dinette and the mid cabin design all caught my eye over the 1992 and newer models.I'm just in the wish list stage right now the 230 works for my wife and I but I would like to have something capable for when my son and daughter inlaw starts a family and the day we get tired of pulling the boat around and want to slip it for the season.

Most states require oversize load permits when your load exceeds 8' 6". That is what the state statues state. Florida has that requirement but it appears it is not enforced. Our boating club has numerous oversize boats that are trailered all over Florida without anyone being stopped. Only one member was ever stopped and he had the oversize banner on his vehicles and the required permits. We feel the banner acted as a bulls eye and was pulled over so they could inspect and check his paperwork.

We have a 1991 270 and we love it....loads of room...
