Hello Folks,

2007 310 Sundancer twins with 6.2 Gas MPI MX (Sterndrive). Just wanted to get some ideas. I had an overspeed alarm on my starboard engine. (Please note that my engine has never overheated). It seemed to have run fine and we went back to dock. Had a hard time starting and then a large bump and grinding from the starter. Initially I thought it was a problem with the starter. (Started intermittently ok, but sometimes with a slap sound and stopped the starter). I then the next morning checked the oil from engine room and noticed the oil about an inch higher on the dipstick. After that, I had a feeling that I might have water in the oil.

I pulled the boat on the trailer, pull all spark plugs from the starboard motor and notice that the port side of the motor had water in cylinders. (Water on plugs). Attempted to start with all the plugs removed. (Still get a large one-click and nothing happens). Turned the motor gear on front and heard water come from the side where the plugs were wet. Drained oil and had water in the oil. I again attempted to start with new oil and plugs removed, but the starter just did a large click. Again, I don't think motor is siezed since I can turn belt using main motor pully.

My first steps was to check compression, but hard to do since it starter won't spin engine. Does anyone have any ideas?

Here is what I'm hoping:
1. Need to check for missing flapper, since all four cylinders on that side had water. Hoping a missing flapper at this point.
2. I boat in fresh water, so I'm thinking that manifolds and risers are fine, but maybe a bad head gasket.

Does anyone have any ideas from the information above on how to proceed?

Thanks in advance,

Mike
