thanks
Jim

Hello Carter, How often do you change the power steering filter? I always make sure my air pressure is good but didn't give much thought to changing the filter. Not sure how much filtering is needed for power steering fluid.

Bob,

I changed mine when I had my Major MAN service done two years ago - I'd bet it had never been changed... Then the next summer I had my ram leak and had to replace seals - didn't change it then. I'd have to research, but as there is no combustion, the oil/filter shouldn't get too dirty. My MAN man says transmissions can go 3 years since there is no combustion products...

Thanks Carter. That was my thinking as well. If I had to guess, mine has never been changed or it’s been many years.

Bob

And then don't forget to re-pressurize the reservoir to 25-35 PSI. A bicycle pump will work, but I got a slick Ryobi electric one for fender inflating that works perfectly.

Hello Carter, when you changed your power steering oil filter I assumed you filled the new filter with oil prior to installing, my question is did you have to manually bleed the air out of the system at the ram or did the air just work through the system on it's own?

Thanks,

Jim

H Jim,

I don't want you to think of me as a "lesser man", but my MAN man did it on my major service, so I didn't see how he did it.

To remove any entrained air from the system after changing the filter, just turn your steering wheel stop to stop four or five times and you should be good to go. And, yes, you should prefill the filter before screwing it on. Of course the last time I did this I spilled oil all over the place.

Thanks Brian, that was was my plan, and Carter you are a better man than me you have a MAN man and I like Brian will spill oil when installing the filter and wish I had a Man man.

Thanks,

Jim
