I have just been informed that my #3 cylinder has either been scourched or the seals are bad and the engine has to come out in order to make this repair. How do they get the engine out of a 2000 540DB with 3406 CAT engines?:smt021

If it is similar to the 480DB, when they remove the floor and possibly the sliding door and lift out through the boat. Its too bad they can not just fix in the boat. I am sure someone will chime in that knows more. I wish you the best.

Frank is sitting this one out………

I've only seen one 3406 grenade and it was in a 580SSS and it is a far cry from a DB, so I'd be guessing. Sorry.

Maybe Scott has the answer?? Haha!!

Did they actually make a 2000 540DB? I've never seen one.

My wife's uncle had an 04-05 Carver 570 Voyager and when he was still a month into ownership, I asked his Carver rep how they access the engine if there is a need to pull an engine. Allan almost had a heart attack when the rep said they cut a hole in the side of the boat and slide it out sideways......

I would love to see the engine bay ceiling to see if it has a removable panel. You may have to remove some interior but I bet there's a panel. They can't I frame the cylinder kit? I know the head weighs about 500 lbs assembled, but if you have a couple feet above it, I bet you could do it in the boat.

They probably don't. I think I've been under too much stress lately... My boat is actually a 2000 560DB. I just spoke with a CAT mechanic who thinks they may be able to build some kind of "crib" to pull out the the cylinder, but it would take considerable labor hours to accomplish. So, now I need to revise my question slightly and ask about anyone with knowledge of the salon floor on the 56. He estimates a fraction of the hrs if they can come in through the floor.

Most Sea Ray DB's are made with removeable salon soles. I would be surprised if the center section as least wasn't removeable.

My advice at this point would be to get in touch with sea ray customer service and ask then to research the build drawings to see what or how much is removeable. I
I'd do an end run on this and just call Rusty Higgins and ask him to PM you, but he is on a delivery to South Fla and isn't available.

I'm putting as many feelers out now as I can. I'll be limping her up to Muskegon for dry dock in the warehouse I normally store in next week and we'll start setting up for repair however we need to do it. I've never had to put the boat away this early...:(

It is true that the engine will come straight up through the salon floor. I actually asked Rusty while on a friend's 560DB and he called the plant to verify. Remover furniture and flooring then the disassemble the deck and pull it straight out the top and through the slider. Call Sea Ray and they probably have the procedure written.

Does anybody know a phone number to call Sea Ray at to ask this kind of question re: removing the salon floor and lifting the engine out?

Searay Tech Support phone number is 865-971-6250, Fax number is 321-454-2357. Very helpful people, have your HIN # ready.

Good luck,
