500/520 DB official thread

we have ez2cy full enclosure now thats about 15 years old I’m guessing so it’s time for a new one . We’re sticking with this product as it’s proven it’s longevity already
I say using COD’S boat because they did his and will use the measurements they took of his. I wish it where $4k I’m sure it’s closer to $20k we’ll see
You are correct. It will be closer to 20k. 4K is what they are worth. $500 in materials. But hey it’s a BOAT....

Looks great. Were you able to get the tube off without removing the elbow (risers) first?
I started loosing the top silicone elbow first and then realized that one of the lines on the fuel filters interfered with getting it off that way. Then I pushed the tube down into the lower silicone sleeve enough to get the tube out of the top silicone elbow. Then was able to pull the tube out of the lower silicone sleeve.
Used a squirt bottle with water and dawn mixture to lube up everything.
all total about an hour and a half. Not bad.

I didn’t want to pick on the clamps cause it looked so nice but glad someone did.
They need to “fight “ each other in theory

I recall mine was 12K. Artful Canvas in St. Pete...

Are they supposed to?

I reinstalled exactly as they were
Just razz'n ya. There is a theory that opposite facing clamps and the clamping mechanisms 180 degrees apart is a better and more secure system. Most surveyors have debunked the theory. There is no code or standard on it.... I think most installers and OEM still follow the theory. At this point I think it's a symbol of workmanship.... Many don't know this but when I looked into it during the purchase of my first large boat I uncovered some hose clamp facts that don't follow what most think:
  • In the US there are no legal (AKA USCG) requirements for dual hose clamps; I think you will find USCG Title 33 is mute on hose securing all together.
  • AYBC requires dual clamps on exhaust hose and fuel fill hose; that's it. And your insurance company will mandate this minimum for coverage.
  • In Europe the ISO standards are well defined on hose clamps and are specific on dual hose clamp locations and styles.
  • There is no requirement nor recommendation for dual hose clamps on any thru-hull or other system other than exhaust and fuel fill. Actually, the use of dual hose clamps on thru-hulls and other below the waterline fittings is questionable as the length of the fitting usually cannot properly accommodate two clamps and it's worse for the hose.... No harm / no foul if dual are properly implemented however.
  • With all of that said, there are specific requirements (AYBC) for the clamps in recreationally marine use. The clamps you buy at Autozone or NAPA probably do not meet AYBC H23 (if I remember the requirement). Consequently, should you have an insurance claim and it's found the fault of a hose clamp that doesn't meet the marine standard you may have some challenges.

Looking forward to the new boat. Gotta lot going on in my head with things....

The helm has a sticker that says sirius. When I push the sat button on the Clarion receiver, it seems like there isn't a sirius receiver up top. But, there is a sirius receiver in the salon. Is there anyway they would be connected? I would think you would want the sirius at the helm and not in the salon. And no, I haven't turned on the sirius receiver in the salon to see if it works at the helm. I only spent 2 weekends in the boat (Last october) before we put her away for the winter. Just trying to get things planned out for the spring!

Thanks,
Tim

Our boat can be with two Sirius XM Sat Tuners. One in the salon and one in at the helm. They are not connected in any way.

We updated and activated the helm Sat tuner and then tied the salon Bose tuner into the Helm Stereo RCA outputs to the inputs on the Bose. Now we can tune the helm to a Sat station and listen to it at either or both locations.

How did you run the RCA Cables - I know "very carefully", but besides that?

Carter I can gladly give details how we routed the wires. Definitely a few tricks we have all learned but I didn’t know our boats had the same layouts from the helm over and down above the salon entertainment center.?.

If they are the same I can share photos and info.

I think we are exact opposites. Your helm is accessed from the port side, mine from stbd (tell me why that is!). I just wondered where you found a path down to the salon then to the entertainment center... my entertainment center is to stbd.

I was looking for the photos/drawing hopefully someone will share but for the 52DB it is pretty easy. Under the stereo/glovebox is the open storage for the A/C unit. There are wires already drilled through that area into the starboard cavity. Just aft is a 6" round access cover at shin level where you will find a group of other cables routed down and directly above the salon entertainment center. The wires will literally drop down with gravity into that space. Getting behind the stereo is another process of removing the cabinet doors and pulling the entire shelf system out of the cabinet. I suspect yours is set up a bit different.

There are two receivers. Look on the roof there should be two antennas. The helm Sirius receiver should be located where the bridge air conditioner is on the left side of that hatch.

The access where the bridge AC unit is and behind the AC unit is a wire chase that allows the wires to route from the bridge into the bridge gunnel cavity. Running aft in that cavity and just inside of one of those round access plates is a chase that goes down to the solon area; right where the entertainment cabinet is. Above the entertainment cabinet in the solon is a vinyl padded curved trim piece. Pull that straight out; it is only attached using a couple of Christmas tree fasteners. On the 52DB which that chase is on the starboard side that vertical chase is right there. All the wiring and hoses from the bridge drop down in this area and run behind the entertainment cabinet. Inside of the lower cabinet there is a removable side piece which in there is the chase and seal-off down to the engine room. That vinyl padded curved trim piece is also the access to the wiring in the ceiling above the aft deck (lighting and audio)....

Thanks! I'll give it a look, next time I'm down.

Hauled the boat replaced the zinc thru hull bolts and ground wire. Noticed a few weep holes in the bottom and looks like a few spots of delamination on the bottom. Has anyone had this issue before?
