500/520 DB official thread

We have used it a little bit… popcorn and reheating lunch. No complaints. I would not have paid the extra for convection if wife didn’t insist. Looks great in that spot.
What was the process to remove the microwave? I am picking up the new one today and will install tomorrow night.

There were 4 screws holding the microwave to the base of the cabinet. Once those screws were out the microwave pulled out. A receptacle was behind the unit.

I did have to drill new holes to line up with the new microwave “feet.”

Sounds easy enough. Thanks for the info

Final alignment yesterday on the engines. They had to raise the outboard forward motor mount on both engines abut an 1/8" which tells me that the hull sags outboard of the inner stringers when in the water. All done!
I'll be running the boat this weekend.

BTW once the shaft is aligned between the strut and shaft log is done and the back of the engine is set to center the couplings, never move the rear of the engine again. All of the alignment is done from the front of the engine after that. This is for straight drives. V-drives are another animal.

Hey Tom,

Curious to know your numbers and how they compared to your numbers prior to the repair

Well we ran the boat Saturday; about 50 miles. Smooth as silk. Full fuel and full water. If I remember correctly - 1925 RPM = 25.9 MPH at 66% load indicated; fuel burn indicated at 0.63 MPG with 30% tabs. That's the best I've ever seen. I've never seen loads that low and fuel economy that high. On the pins 2355 RPM. This was pretty much a shakedown; I'll get a better data set next outing.

Tom,

Any chance you have your prop data, prop speed application, diameter, pitch, cup if any? EGT or Manifold temp by hand held process, any manifold leakage. How many hours or years between raw water tear down?

Your numbers are online with what I see +- 5% pretty much with 500lb tender on swim plate form.

Projects.....

I have a new Tv in the salon hooked up to the Bose Lifestyle 48. Sounds great! But how do I control the speakers in the front bedroom or the Bose speakers in the cockpit? I have the separate Bose remotes but can’t figure out how the speakers work.
Thanks
Tim
Tim, I am working on the same AV project. Except, I could not get the Lifestyle 48 to play sound from the TV over an optical cable. What sound cable are you using to connect to the Lifestyle 48?

And yes, I cannot figure out the Master Stateroom speakers either. Do these connect to the TV in there?

My boat has JL speakers in the cockpit that are connect to the bridge Fusion system. I think the cockpit Bose zone was an option, right?

Tom

For the water pump the standard pleated filter style that was original to the boat.
For filling the tank from the dock a portable filter that connects to the hose. It is a carbon / pleated 5 micron unit.
The watermaker needs no filter other than those for the raw water and RO membranes.
I chlorinate at the beginning of every season and we run a LOT of water through the tank.
I've never had any issues or odor with the water.
Tom, thanks so much for this info. I just purchased a 2005 500 DB and I was wondering what would be the best protocol to 1) make sure my tanks are as clean as possible and 2) keep them extra filtered and clean.

Also, could you please share the models of filters you use on the dock and inside the boat? I am looking forward to not feeling questionable about our water. Thanks!

Do you have a separate remote for the MSR? Mine has an RF to IR repeater. All the remotes communicate to the RF receiver then channels the signal to an IR repeater that sits in front of the "head unit" to communicate. Do you have these?

As for the cable, I used an optical cable from amazon. But, I did have to go into the settings to "enable" it. To do that, I had to have a video cable from the "head unit" to the TV. You can't see the menu on the Bose. It must be viewed on the TV.

I do but it's on the boat and I'm across the country. Will try and remember when I get back end of week.

Contrats on the boat!
When I first got my boat I "superclorinated" the entire water system. I put 1/2 gallon bleach with 120 gallons water and circulated through the entire system until I could smell chlorine at each of the discharge points then locked it up for about 6 hours. After that I ran the tank dry then filled it again and ran it dry again then filled up. Done
Then once a year I chlorinate with two cups of bleach in 120 gallons using the same procedure.
I should mention that the filter element should be removed before chlorination as it has a charcoal layer that will absorb much of the chemical.
These are the replacement filters I use -

Thanks Tom! This is incredibly helpful. I asked my broker about this process, as well as some friends at the marina, but no one was very definitive. Thanks so much for the step by step instructions. Are there any filters that need to be removed in the boat during this process? Down by the washer/dryer?

Also, does the filter you linked go into the blue housing shown on the Amazon page? And would you recommend placing it at the end of the hose or the beginning? My hose can grow some gross stuff inside.

Tom

I was told NOT to keep water in hoses etc while in the hot sun it produces algae.
That’s why my water softener and pre filter are in the locker in out of the sun.

Great idea. I will def keep my stuff out of the sun. Do you guys have any filters inside your boats? Or just the filter and softener before the water goes in the tank?

Tom

Tom, my set up is a pre filter then the softener then another 2 filters and then an additional filter before the ice maker . I also installed a drinking water faucet and filter under the galley sink. We drink the tank water with no issues.

There should be the filter housing that the elements fit next to the water valve manifold in the lazarette; right next to the cablemaster and behind the water heater.
The only other OEM filter that I know of is the screen on the inlet of the pump.
