I just love stuff like this....

I wonder how many future Sea Ray owners were glued to the TV watching these shows in the '60s along with my all time favorite....
"Sea Hunt"

Sustained 44 knots in 30 knot headwind and 6-8ft sea's...... Wow! And you know it will do better than what they say it will do.....

The true top speed will be in the next edition of Jane's Fighting ships without a doubt. If I had to WAG I'd bet she has got another 15-20 knots in her if they take out all the stops. But this contract stuff is atypical military change order type of stuff. When I went aboard our ship in the charleston ship yards we spent a extra 7 months there because in the middle of the refit Navy wanted a new radar that just came out.

an aircraft carrier can haul ass too - fastest ships in the fleet, 50mph. you won't find that in janes either

The Freedom did some speed trials last summer on Lake Michigan and the wake was so huge the Coast Guard was warning mariners. Friend was out salmon fishing and didn't even see it go by and about fell of his boat. He should have heeded the warning!

I saw a similar ship crossing the Gulf and throwing wake Jan '08 when I was flying RESCAP over the Gulf for two F-15's involved in a mid-air. It stopped and accepted two helicopters - one with a body, and one wtih a flight dock.

Today, while kitesurfing the in the Gulf off Panama City Beach, I saw one of our local, large hydoplanes racing in through the pass. Waves were about 8ft, winds 20 knots.

The Russians developed a fleet of aircraft which flew in "Ground Effect," usually over water, at speeds of several hundred miles per hour. They couldn't fly up out of ground effect, but were very efficient and carried hundreds of troops and tons of equipment.

Very neat.

Didn't Johnny have an Indian friend (Hodji?)? And his Dad, and was it Reese, the guy that was like his father's protection?

I remember it, it was a favorite show of mine growing up.

Count me as a Sea Ray owner who remembers Sea Hunt and continues today to be facinated by all types of boats.
Thanks for the links.
