I've noticed a whine when running on the lake. No, not the wife, but from the engine/drive. It's not very loud, I mainly notice because it tends to resonate exactly where my head is when at the helm. If I turn my head or move a bit, it gets quieter, but still noticeable. You can hear it in the first 10 seconds or so of the following video:

Still kind of a newbie and trying to learn what is normal and what isn't. Thanks,

It sounds normal. The whine is a combination of engine & drive noise. If this drive is original you're doing great!

Mine has the whine - normal. I hear it the most between 2500-3000 rpm and with the Bimini up. Lots of gears moving in a outdrive, they make noise.

:) mine has been whining for 22 years, the outdrive of course right around 2800 rpm.

Thanks guys. I figured as much. My daily driver is a manual trans, and I do notice gear noise occasionally (I think cars are better insulated--as in they actually have insulation). This whine just stood out in particular because it just resonated in my head right at the seat. Never hurts to ask. Sometimes really hurts not to ask...
