Does anyone know if the accessory items such as Water Pumps, Starters and Alternators on the counter rotating Mercruiser 5.7 are different part numbers then the ones used on the standard rotation engines, or are they just mounted differently to account for the direction of rotation? The distributors rotate opposite I think for proper ignition timing, but I guess its also possible to use the same distributor if it is being turned opposite by the cam gear and then the proper Plug wire timing is used. Finding actual parts lists and numbers seems to be difficult.

Starter is the only different part among those you mentioned. Even the distributor is the same and it rotates clockwise on both engines. The distributor on the opposite rotation motor has the plug wires arranged in reverse order to match the firing order of the cylinders. You can't rotate the distributor counterclockwise as it would turn the oil pump in the wrong direction.

lets not forget the front and rear main seals are designed for a reverse rotating engine
do you have the engine serial numbers handy, sometimes the transmission reverse the rotation

well, I wasn't planning to re-build the engine. I was just wondering about the bolt on accessories. On my boat, it is the engine that is counter rotating rather than the transmission. The Port engine is clearly marked that way.
