5.0L Merc Started to Overheat Today

look at the Fuel Pump. mine was doing the same thing about 3 weeks ago and it ended up needing a new fuel pump. don't ask me why cause I didn't understand how the fuel pump was cuasing the main fuse for the smartcraft to blow.

Local mechanic from the Tampa Store named Chris come out on a mobile service call and spent 2 days going over it. it ended up being covered under warranty for $25.

really liked Chris, seems like a real good guy - toke the time to explain everything and even checked all my fluid levels before he left ( he topped off my power steering) I didn't even know I was low.

Is the fuel pump something I should look at changing myself? I was really hoping to get out on the boat today, but that doesn't look like it's going to happen.

Well. . . .reading the thread. . . .I think you are a bit hosed for the weekend.

Is your mechanic good? I think you are about to find out.

Just be glad everything went kaplooie when you were *only* 40 feet from the dock!

I had an engine go down on me when I was 40 feet from the dock. . and even with one running engine, everything went pear shaped dang fast.

Ok well I thought I had it fixed. I replaced the IAC and the boat started, but is still blowing the middle fuse of the EFI panel. MM told me that fuse controls the alternator. Any thoughts about why this would happen?

Ok well the problem was finallyh diagnosed today and fixed. There was a grounding/wiring problem to the fuel pump. The IAC also went bad and needed to be replaced. I've learned in alot in this process and want to thank everyone who helped resolve this problem.

Thanks again,

Don
