We're running up from VA to Boston. The marina mechanic started the generator in front of me. The next day no go. I tried everything with the same result. As soon as I flip the generator switch, the alarm goes off at the helm "generator alarm." Pressing the preheat and start will flash the hour meter on the generator, but does nothing else. I tried every configuration with the AC and DC switches. Any ideas?

If you're getting a series of flashes it will relate to the troubleshooting part of the manual.

How long are you pressing the Start/preheat button? With the generator switch on, press and hold the start/ preheat button. It may take up to 10 seconds before the genny starts cranking. During that time you will here the alarm which is normal.

Hey Mike. Did you check the raw water strainers to make sure they're not clogged up with seaweed? The generator won't start if it is.

That did it guys! I swear the guy pressed it for 5-10 seconds. I needed to hold it on start for 20-25 seconds before it started. Now, we don't have to wear thermal underwear tomorrow. That leaves only one problem. How to get hot water. I need to do a search first. I may have burned out the element. Oh, and make sure you check to make sure your dip sticks at in all the way. You don't want to see a bilge after running 10 hours at 75% load.

How was the trip home? Which way did you end up going, north through the Chesapeake and C/D canal, or around the outside through Hampton Roads? Or, did I miss a whole thread. You moved the boat out of Occoquan Harbor faster than I got a chance to check it out.

We had the most unbelievable 4-day stretch of flat seas moving it up to Boston. I took 2 crew from my marina and went continuously from Occoquan Harbor to the C&D Canal. We had an incredible dinner at a little restaurant on the water in the C&D Canal. The next day we ran all the way to NYC with one stop in Atlantic City for fuel. Another glutenous meal at a Japanese steak house. The third day we ran to Newport with a fuel stop in Branford, CT. Guess what we did in Newport. Ate like kings again to the tune of $400. The final leg to Boston from Newport took 5.5 hours. The boat ran flawlessly.

That sounds great! I'm glad it was a great trip. It sounds like you were making great time based on the distance you covered.
