480 DB Owners Club

I just don't prefer to. In the heat of the summer on the Chesapeake, I'd rather have 75 degree air blowing on me than sticky 90 degree air. Any other time it's comfortable as is. I do open the panels up when anchored out or at a transient marina (home marina is covered shed). Heck, sometimes I run the bridge air while anchored to help keep a load on the generator.

I'm cool with that !!! We ride with the wind coming in a lot until the wife gets a chill !!! That's it's close it up cause she gets cold fast . But I've noticed with the front panel and back panel down her seat is like a hurricane and I'm barely getting a breeze , it's got to be that pod up top

Have any of you 480 owners installed bridge A/C if the boat was not equipped from the factory? What did it entail and what was the cost roughly?

I am looking at a couple 480's. some have bridge air, others don't. Does anyone know if bridge air can be installed or does it have to be a factory item. I would love to have it as the summers are very hot and I think the A/C would take the edge off.

If the boat has a hard top, I'm sure bridge air CAN be installed, but I would also wager that it is a pain in the ass. There are a good number of 480DBs on the market. I guess that the discount for one without air would not come close to offsetting the cost/hassle of installing A/C. So to sum up, if you want bridge A/C (which is one of the many great features of this model) you should try to buy a boat with it. I'd be willing to bet that most have it from the factory.

It really wouldn't be that hard , because all the lines come up one side of the bridge , only thing is you'd only have one air outlet under the dash , the whole bridge dinette would have to come out to put it under the sink . Just buy one with air , hell even us Michiganders use our bridge air all the time .

Yes, the lines do come up the one side of the bridge, but I can't imagine how hard it would be to get those lines run correctly. Prior to my purchase, I did not place a big emphasis on bridge air. Would not buy one without now and I am in the great white north! Eh!

I would say one with bridge air unless you were planning to undertake other major retro fits like electronics that would require a bit of a teardown.

We looked at a great condition low hour 480 the broker didn't know if it had air or not ,as soon as I walked up to the boat and discovered it did not I turned and got in my car. It was priced aggressively for that reason. I have heard its a ton of work and prob cost you $5-$8 k in parts alone so why bother? Take your time and look around some more.

thanks everyone for your answers. I guess I will let my Broker know that bridge A/C is mandatory.

I can honestly say that I did not come across any without it during my search. That and a lift were must-haves for me.

Do what Joe did.

I installed bridge air on my boat and I'll tell you that I'm not looing forward to do it again. The parts alone for a single self-contained unit with alll bells and whistles were around $4-4.5K. This could be more than double for a split system with two evaporators, which is usual setup for this size models. I don't even know bu how much the boat hows to be underpriced to make this worthwile hassle. Usually, you end up ahead of the game when all of your must have items are on the boat you're buying. Anything you have to add, you're paying the retail for it, which is much more than if it came with the boat.

I wouldn't even drive to look at a boat if didn't have bridge air.

Also keep in mind that you also get heat with the bridge air and it extends your season if you are in the north. We go in earlier and come out later, because you can sit in comfort when everyone else is freezing during early spring or late fall cruises.. I also needed/must have the door on the bridge as well. Not all had them.

I've been very very bad this week and signed a contract on a Hatteras Motoryacht . Sorry to say I need to get rid of my 2004 48DB. For you fellow owners, what do you think is a strong value is for my Sea Ray. Its always been kept on a lift, has all the "right" options, updated electronics, 1000hr. I think its one of the nicest 48's in the country. My plan is to try to sell myself for 1-2 months and then use a broker if unsuccessful. Thoughts please

Well I saw a blue hull for sale for 369,000 but it has MAN engines in it which is the upgrade , I'm thinking ... $329,000-349,000
And for us here in the Great Lakes , being that your boat is a salty boat that takes down the value .

There's a couple '04s on Yachtworld in the $320k's. Based off what I paid this spring for my loaded '03 with 700 hrs I'd say $325k without a broker would be doing good.

64MY Its the normal progression for someone with a boating sickness.

Thanks and good for you I hope it has at least an engine room you can stand up in? I have seen the new Sea Ray 65 Fly and cannot believe it does not have an engine room where one can stand up in. I had an acquaintance who had a 56 SD, hell of a boat, until one had to do something in the engine room. But that is perhaps just me and age, my bones are not as limber any more. LOL
