... it list Cat C-10 with V-drives as an option. anything special about C-10's?

Wow, it does say that. I can't imagine they really offered it that way.

It would be a nightmare to work on, but imagine the extra space in the engine room !

werent the C10s the replacement for the 3176s? Personally, i wouldn't want a 480db with 550hp motors. Probably still gets up ok and cruises low-mid 20's. But, 29-30mph cruise thanks to 660hp engines is awfully impressive for a ~50,000lb wet boat.

What is your GPH burn rate at 29-30 mph cruise?

~23 per side; 85% load; 1950 rpms; 28x33 wheels

I see a difference between Cummins, b/c reports I've heard for QSMs were in the range of 55-60GPH for both sides running at about 28-29kts.

I'd say these are very impressive numbers for such a big and heavy boat.

if i was running 29kts (34+mph) vs. 29mph I'd be mid-upper 50's or more too. 34 is about WOT.

Opps, I stand corrected then. I misread that original speed was discussed in MPH.

26 knots is about 25 GPH per side... as far as "mpg", it's about the same down to 22 knots then it gets worse as you slow down.

I saw that "v-drive" thing years ago in an old marketing brochure. It was a typo.... The marketing boobs screwed up.

Are you sure about the 85% load? My smartcraft reads 75-77 % load at 2050 RPMs. (very similar boat). Are you confusing load with % of maximum rpm?

i dont think so. I'm referring to the cat ecm which displays engine load. i believe its based on fuel rate, not full rpm %.

Has anyone ever had a problem with starting the engines off their respective start switches? I've had to use the emergency start switch several times this season after replacing both main batteries in the spring, Batteries both read fully charged, and it seems to be only the starboard side, if you've had this issue, let me know how you resolved it.... would love to know..

I experienced the same issue. Turned out to be a bad alternator. Are you sure the batteries are reading fully charged when it happens. When does it happen? At the dock, after cruising to a destination?

Different boats I know, but very similar symptoms. Mine turned out to be a bad alternator AND a bad rocker switch at the helm. I diagnosed the switch by swapping port and starboard, the symptoms moved with the switch. Just my .02

Winterizing my buddys 48, when the shower sump overflows, does that water go into the engine room bilge or am i missing a bilge pump somewhere? Thanks Bob

It goes into the starboard side stateroom.
Lift the bed, then look aft of the washer/dryer. There is a floor panel that comes out.

It goes into the starboard side stateroom....

Does it just get trapped in there until one manually removes it?

There is a bilge pump in there. But, like any bilge pump, it leaves a small amount of water behind. So if it ever does overflow you want to make sure you clean out that bilge area and dry it.
