Any one use a environmentally friendly chemical that they pour down the drain periodically or any other ideas to reduce this PITA chore?

That central sump is a pain in the arse! (same configuration on a 560) I also have to clean regularly, however not every couple of weeks. More like once every six weeks. We are very diligent about what goes down the sinks and every weekend I pour some biologically friendly bilge cleaner down the shower drains. It seems to help to cut the scum buildup (gross) which in turn cuts the smell.

I also second Gary's observation that the galley sink should have a direct exit. Each of my other four boats did. A while back, someone did a post of a mod they did installing a through-hull for the galley.

I hate that thing. The galley sink drains into it and I don't care how careful one is, it gets particles of egg, cottage cheese, Coke, beer, milk, peas, rice and toothpaste in it and creates a horrible biochemical experiment... I wish my galley sink had a direct shot over the side of the boat (most other boats do that).

Brother, that's a HELL of a diet you're on there.

You guys should break out a hole saw or rotozip and cut a hole for the sink discharge. Hell, what's one more hole you your hull?

Exactly. I'm thinking of putting in about 12 holes on each side for some speakers. Whatcha' think?

Yo Yo Yo. Now DAT is gonna be a kickin' system. How many subs you got in dere? I have an underwater sub so the whales can jam out to Chris Brown too.

Did they change this on the 50/52 DB? Here you can see that back port side corner of my boat and you can see the water flowing out of the common drain:

No, same design.....I guess In my mind I was thinking of the master stateroom a/c raw water discharge. All others discharge thru the molded port similar to yours.

Agreed.... What amazes me is it doesn't matter how much you flush it(running the sink periodically or extra time in the shower) it still gets scummy... I'm thinking bilge cleaner before each voyage or finding some type of species that can live down there and feed off it!

Just additional clarification. a/c "raw" water discharge pumps directly out thru hull fitting, the a/c "condensate" water goes into the central sump. The sump also has an overflow tube that is piped to a hull sump with bilge pumps. The central sump is something that is a maintenance nightmare for me and curious if it is for others. If I don't clean it every two weeks, I can smell the odors in the bathroom as there are no traps on the drain pipes. My wife is very diligent about with what goes down the galley sink. Oddly, it's the scum build up from soap, shampoo, tooth paste, etc. I bought fish pond filters at Lowes and cut to fit. I place them just below the drain and it seams to help with reducing the scum build up around the perimeter. Its made the cleaning process easier but still a nuisance to clean. I'll clean ours with Simple Green once a season and it's usually not too bad. Before we leave the boat I pour about half to a cup of Odo-ban down each drain. When we make it back to the boat, things smell pretty fresh. Can buy it by the gallon at Sams. but, I agree, sure would be nice if the sinks discharged directly overboard.

Try pouring some white vinegar down your drains and let sit in your sump. You can also keep a gallon of hydrogen peroxide and occasionally pour some down all of your drains. My 410 only has the showers and A/C condensates draining into 2 sumps but I still do this...

The hydrogen peroxide works great, my local searay dealer told me to try it in the drains, sumpboxes and even the a/c drip pan. In order for it to do a great job you will have to plug the exit drains somehow where it gives it time to work.

Oh and BTW, a thankyou to my buddy (Gary), Four Suns for the tip a while back on the faucet baskets strainers. Just placed my order for two, thanks Gary!!

Dude... Why are you and your crappy little *** boat in this thread?

Steve, I don't have the smell issue. I clean the sump box no more than every other month with simple green. However, every other week I pour 1/2-3/4 of a cup of bleach and let it sit for few hours before I flush it out. Easiest way to pour it before heading to bed and let it get flushed with morning showers. I've been doing this for several years now.

Check out the April issue of PMY. They redid the helm of a 480DB. Pretty neat.
