48 sundancer fuel burn and cruise

Good to know. It looks like SR made the change to DTS in 2008. Does that sound correct?

Yes, moved to single lever controls in 08. The 48da is actually ETS (not DTS made by mercruiser) - ETS (electronic vs digital)is the cummins designed system, and per my mechanic far superior to DTS.

Thanks for the clarification.

For those familiar, is there a noticeable difference between the ETS and previous dual levers? I highly prefer the ETS.

There is a difference. 4 levers vs 2 levers. I went from DTS (That I loved in my '08 330) to 4 levers in my 48. It was the one thing I thought I would really miss. I didn't miss the DTS. The levers are buttery smooth and there is cruise control and sync. You will rarely if ever have to goose the throttle when docking on the 48 because the wheels are so big and reactive. Four levers is not worse, just different. The only downside is if you have to goose the throttle, you need to move to the other set of levers on the other side of the steering wheel. That's so rare, that it negates the difference.

I definitely prefer the single controls. Mine had them optioned on a 2005 so they were available on the earlier builds. It would be possible to upgrade from duals to singles but I'm not sure what the total cost would be and if it would be worthwhile.

Agree 100%

This is good insight and kinda what I was wondering. I have DTS on my 2010 350. I kinda prefer everything on one side, but that's me having no experience with the second set of levers.

Anyone know if a Yacht Controller setup will work with the boats that don't have the 2 levers?

You are overthinking this. The 48 is going to be easier to dock than your 350. Way easier. Save your money for maintenance.

I have only driven boats with separate levers. I am actually a touch nervous about getting on 08 or newer. Although this is what we are looking for.

You won't have any issues with two sets of levers. I have yet to see a 48 with our a bow thruster. The diesel power makes a world of difference around the dock. We moved from a 2001 380 sundancer (gas) to our latest boat a 2007 40 with Cummins QSB 425's. The diesel power made the boat significantly easier to maneuver around the dock. Add a bow thruster and you won't have any issues.

Yacht Controller thought was more of a, I'm single handing the boat and need to hop off to secure lines. My 350 is incredibly simple to dock. I suspected the heft of the 48 would make it easy to dock. Thanks for the insight.

About 1 out of 10 times I have difficulty single hand docking or depart because the wind or current gets the bow away from me when I tie or untie. If it does, it happens very slowly, not like it would on the 350. It helps in those situations to have someone bump the bow thruster while you tie the lines. About 8 out of 10 times, there are people on the dock to throw or receive lines. So, in the rare case when someone can't help with the thruster or lines, you have to add a step to the process with preparation. When leaving, loosen the last stern line holding you to the finger, then wrap it once. Untie the bow, run to unwrap the stern line, run to the helm and take control. When arriving, back in, press to the finger, run and wrap the stern line holding you to the finger, go to the helm and bump the bow back in, run to the bow and secure the line. That happens maybe once a season, in most cases because you allow your crew to remain sleeping. Not worth the expense of a Yacht Controller.

Vetus sells a remote control for your thruster which worked well for me on my 420da. The 48 doesn't have it but can be added. I do exactly as JV describes on the 48.

Does anyone with an 07-08 have issues with delamination on the interior high gloss cabinets? If so what have you done to fix the issue and how successful has the fix been. All of the 08's I have looked at have this to some extent.

My buddy has an 08 and the cabinets were delaminating. He was not the original owner, actually he purchased the boat last year. Brought the issue up to the local Sea Ray dealer and Sea Ray fixed it at no cost.

I found a lot of this on 07, 08 boats as well. My 48 has very minor delamination on the top valances (curved surfaces). With the help of Searay I sourced (2) 4x8 sheets of the laminate. I have not repaired to date.

When I was shopping for my 400, I came across many boats with the similar delamination problem. It looked as if their was a picture of wood with a thick plastic that seperated. Research showed this to be Vitricor as the laminate. Does anybody know if this is the same material in the 07/08 models? Most i saw were 1999-2001, and "heard" this was no longer used in 2002+ .....just curious if the replacement material is no better
