Interested in moving up to a 48da, can you post your optimal furn burn and cruise speed(knots)? Also what is your WOT speed?

At 80% load, 2250 RPM, burning 42 GPH at 23.5 knots. WOT 28.5 knots at 2600 RPM. This is with 3/4 to full fuel and 1/2 to full water tanks. I have seen better numbers with 1/4-1/2 fuel load and empty water tanks. We're talking 25 knots at 2250 RPM and maybe another 4 knots at WOT. As an addendum, at any speed up to cruise the tabs are all the way down to bring the highest speed. Lift the tabs all the way and the boat strains. At WOT, speed goes up to the ones quoted only when the trim tabs are 1/2 down. It goes slower at WOT with full tabs or no tabs.

I do not have enough time with my boat to really comment but I can tell you if I cruise at 2150 RPM, its 21.5 knots, 36 GPH. Not much different than the 420.

Thanks Guys, i was at 2250, 25 knots today on the 420. it seems like the 48da runs about 1.5 knots less at cruise than the 420.

Now they call it the 50 Sundancer with Zeus drives it does this, (according to "Boattest.com").
Would love to have first hand experience with it someday.......

Speeds measured with Stalker ProSports radar gun. Fuel consumption (gallons per hour) measured with Floscan digital fuel-flow meter on gas inboards, sterndrives, and outboards, TechMate electronic scan tool on gas EFI inboards, Caterpillar digital fuel-flow meter on diesel engines, or permanently installed fuel-monitoring equipment. Range is based on 90% of published fuel capacity. Sound levels determined using Radio Shack digital decibel meter on A scale. 68 dBA is the level of normal conversation.

wow that is quite a differance in performance. ive never piloted a zues or IPS boat before.

Not really. Note with the same engines, the v-drive max RPM is 2600, but with Zeus it is 3000. Best cruise MPG on the Zeus boat is just over 0.7 and the v-drive about 0.65. I've gotten just over 0.7 on mine with 1/3 full fuel and no water on board. I'd be willing to bet that my engines will last longer cruising along at several hundred less RPM, not to mention no need to pull the boat to service the running gear. The Zeus boat is 2.5 knots faster at cruise, but at the expense of running 350 RPM higher. My numbers are real world. In my experience, Boat Test numbers are a bit inflated because they are tested with no gear, low fluids, and sometimes a non-painted bottom.

Since this thread is a few years old. Can any one provide updated number? Have others seen similar #'s. We tested a 48 a few weeks ago and hit 2680 RPM.

2680 is spot on. Check the smartcraft for load - before I retooled props rpms were spot on but load was light, impacted speed and fuel burn.

I have not squeezed out much beyond 2600 RPM, WOT. It takes a about a minute to climb up to 2600 RPM. If the tabs are down, dragging at all, you will not hit it. Our currents can run 1-2 knots. Wind and waves will affect top speed. The boat carries more than two tons of liquids. So, top speed is a loaded question. I've seen max 35 mph on the GPS, but I would say without wind, waves and current, reliably, this boat will do 29 knots with a clean bottom and full tanks. That's plenty fast and will leave all sedan bridges and a lot of Sundancers in the wake.

Usually run 2250 and yields 23 Knots. WOT clean bottom is 2670 RPM and 29.5 knots. Fast cruise 2400 rpm 26 knots. Of course as mentioned depends on current load. Can vary about 1 knot. I usually watch load, cruise load 75%. We tweeked props to and Max Load I get is about 97%.

Hi we are new to the sea ray 500 club. We have a 91 Sundancer 500 with DD/550 hp engines. Where can I find any information the GPH knots miles an hour rpm setting based on this particular boat? I looked all over boat test.com and could not find anything. Any ideas please. Thank you very much!

What is you load and fuel burn at 2250 rpm and 2400 rpm

Well, that's not really true. Both the 52DB and 58DB have top speeds in excess of 31 knots and will cruise all day in excess of 25 knots. Not sure the 48 DA leaves either of those bridge boats in its wake.

A few questions for the 48 folks.. specifically 2007-2009 48's.
I didn't want start a new thread, so I put them in here.

-What ranges are you seeing? (V drive boats at cruise)
-How stable is the boat at displacement speed in 2-3' seas?
-Has anyone put a water maker in their boat and is there even room for one?

The 2005-2012 48/50 is the same hull and power package (except for Zeus option on later models). The boat is 34,000# with fuel and water on board. This is a very stable boat in 2-3 foot seas at displacement speed. You will get tossed if they are on the beam, like any other boat. You can make room for a water maker. There is a space in the starboard quarter and also just port to the generator.

Brian, you are 100% correct. We ran with a 52DB, QSM11 motors and they definitely run 1-2 knots over my WOT.

Good to know. It looks like SR made the change to DTS in 2008. Does that sound correct?
