I'm getting mine done by a technician this winter he will do aftercoolers, heat exchangers, valve adjustment, serpentine belts, raw water impellers and transmission coolers (1000 hour service). i'll let you know once I know the final price.

I did 1k hour a year ago and was 22k for the engine and genny.
 
Grant, if memory serves me correct you have a Hurley H3O plus davit for your dinghy. If so do you recommend it ? I priced making platform hydraulic, cost prohibitive. Any feedback appreciated. Thanks

Yes I have it and it works great. Use it for my Highfield and my Yamaha jet ski. I to looked at adding a swimstep lift and at $40k just does not make sense.

Take a look at the Presto Marine lifts. They have worked great for us for the last couple of years. I have the XL500R model.
 
Installed and chirping away. Just need to tighten up wires and bring the label maker to the boat. What a big install pulling all those damn wires. 2 solid days of work. Let’s just hope I get the results I expect.

@ocgrant Where did you install it? I can't make out that space from the picture. You do such fantastic work.

Thought I would give a little update on the cloudy trim. It is coated with epoxy and very resistant to chemical strippers. Nothing from the usual suspects does much to it. The stuff that really works is highly toxic but can’t find it anymore. We used to use it to strip cars and airplanes. Paint it on and in 15 minutes the paint is on the floor.

I am sanding down to wood with 80 then 220 then 320. It looks like mahogany once stripped to bare wood. I’m debating whether to apply some mahogany stain or just go over the bare wood with a good spar varnish.

There are a couple pieces of trim that I can’t figure out how to remove. Not sure what I’m going to do there. I don’t think sanding and varnishing in place is an option. This is the trim that sits above the salon windows. Only thing I can think of is that they glued it in. No way to get to the back side so it can’t be screwed in.

I'm close to deciding if it's time to do the upgrade on the electronics, probably the radar, MFDs and radio. I realize that going with a modern version of what I have for radar (a 4' open array) would be the best choice for range and probably looks. Has anyone done a dome, or would that just look "bush league" on the hard top?

Of course the usual Ray vs Garmin debate is going on in my head (and spreadsheet). I think the Ray aspect ratio better fills the dash.

The Bush League has fans.....
The selection of a radar scanner to me is on performance for the way the boat is used. My perspective is our boats idle at 10 MPH, they move right along, we need good separation and detail when visibility is compromised. That drives me to the open array. Others (the Bush League) have said they get good enough separation and detail with their dome style.
Ray vs Garmin...... Comes down to preference; both build quality equipment. I think Garmin does a better job interfacing with non-Garmin hardware. But, in the last S/W and F/W update the autopilot screen interface is a graphic mess - most disappointing. Ray, on the other hand, is finally getting over their propriety cabling and has moved to NMEA 2000 standards. Garmin can get quite complicated because of all the dials that are available to fine tune the features and it is sometimes a bit of a quagmire finding all of the dials. But, then again, Garmin has those fine tuning features.

You were of no help! (JK...).

I guess on an express style boat the unit is probaby 8 feet lower than on a sedan so really the reach of the radar for little stuff is never going to be great. Current boat and last boat (Tiara 40) both had 4ft open magnatron raymarines, I just wonder if going to a 2ft dome would not give me the near to 10 mile details that I've had...

A friend with a 56SD when with a dome, that is what got me thinking about that option.

I have heard this stuff is very close to original finish…. If you are cherry…. But might have other finishes

Interesting... Don't need any now but looks like they are somewhere around Orlando area so might have to check them out next time I am in that area with an original sample to see if they can match it up.
