48 DA Owners Club

@OldManP Glad you got it. I checked the parts manuals for both the 420 and the 48 and they appear to be the same actuator. Good luck. We were just in Cape May last Mon-Wed. Stayed at South Jersey Marina. Cool place. Came in from the west entrance to the canal. I want a local to explain how to make that hard right turn at Red #14 to get back to South Jersey! My depth finder went crazy both times I traversed that area, telling me that I was tickling the bottom.

That makes me feel way more comfortable. Do you have a website or contact you can share for replacement parts? Do you have a wiring diagram or schematic that shows all the E-Plex switching layout? Anything you can share would be great. Once the deal on my 48 closes, I plan to go look at the 55 for sale down in Southern California. I actually walked the boat 3 years ago but the owner at that time did not want to part with it. He now owns a 72 Sunseeker and the 55 so he's super motivated to move it.

Yes, the Wiring diagrams are in the Boat Manual that you can get off the Sea Ray Website. The e-plex schematics are pretty darn detailed. I actually printed all the E-plex wiring schematics on 24" x 36" paper and rolled them up and store them at the boat. But more often then not, when I'm wondering about what does what, I just pull it up on my phone and check it out that way. There is a guy in FLA that specializes in the E-plex and will travel anywhere needed. I fellow CSR member put me on to him. So far, I haven't had to call him. PM me at some point and I can give you his contact info. But like I was saying, the E-plex does a lot more. For instance, When you go to take boat out, you hit the "start generator button", hit the "Go Boating" button, unplug Shore cord and leave. When you get back to dock, you just roll your 50 amp cord out and connect it to the dock. You don't need to turn any breaker on or off prior to doing that. just hook the cable up. Go to the e-plex panel and push the "At Dock" button and the the electrical transfer happens automatically and the generator shuts off on it's own. Pretty cool in my book.

Yea that corner can be tricky, especially at low tide. It shoals up quickly and gets dredged every year. Shallower draft boats can run across in front of the bulkhead over to the commercial fleet as a shortcut. I'll be down your way in a couple of weeks on our annual Chesapeake trip. I guess it will be a lot busier over there this year than it was last year. Had a hard time getting reservations in Solomons and St. Michaels.

So the 2 main items on my shakedown list are

1. sump in the coffin, damn pump seems to cavitate and not suck. Found it overflowed and filled the bilge. No idea why it is cavitating, pump runs fine, no blockage. You watch it full of water just running but not sucking then out of the blue it just starts sucking. Really wierd. I am going to just replace the whole pump and test it by filling the sump multiple times to see what it does with a new pump.
2. Lost the port side wiper motor in the rain storms coming back from Bimini. At least it stoped moving the wiper arm. I have to r&r it this Sunday and see if I can fix it like Jeffery did or replace it. I would also like to get longer wipers if possible, 4 inches would sure make a difference.

Don't complain... you just came back from the Bahamas. lol

OC please let me know where you find wipers 4" longer I think that would be great if that could be accomplished.

Thanks
JB

Ok, this sounds pretty amazing actually. Have you ran into any actual problems with the system itself? It sounds like the system was actually pro-active on your pump issue. This is really great to know. I may end up with the 55 afterall (regardless of the LSD induced coverings on the seats) lol. I noticed that you have the MAN 900's. This boat has the 800's which is the in-line 6. Any thoughts on that?

What is the weight capacity of the stern storage compartment from swim platform? I thought of putting 4 scuba tanks in there for a trip. Is this too much weight??

So long as they’re properly secured / cushioned, I don’t think that presents any issue or stress on the transom or structural parts of the boat. I wouldn’t have them banging around in there though!

Hi Grant,

I have had the exact failure on the sump pump on my 48 (two weeks ago) as well as on another pump in the bilge on the same boat and my previous 44DA. I’m convinced that the Rule pumps don’t handle contaminated water for any period of time. In each case, I had to replace the pump to regain suction. Something is happening to impellers even when I keep the sump box clean. The last failure was at 11pm while the wife was taking a shower; great timing to say the least LOL. I’m going to tear down the pump that failure and try to root cause.

Pete

Check the little vent hole at the base of the pump; I think all Rule pumps have it. That hole allows any air to bleed out so the pump can prime.

Tom that makes all the sense in the world... I bet money it is plugged, that explains when I bang it up and down off the base it sometimes starts sucking. Wonder if this vent hole should be enlarged slightly or just put it on the regular cleaning schedule?

Good point on venting. The 2000gph pump doesn’t appear to have a vent hole like the small pumps but it looks like they vent around the base clip area. I pulled my off and cleaned the area then pump primed instantly.

So replaced the pump today and relocated the water witch switch to allow slightly more water in the sump. I think that was part of my issue as the the switch was too low causing the pump to cavitate and suck air. Seems to be much better but time will tell.

Here is the Cummins QSC fuel line update.

Game over... making water on H2O Therapy. Long weekend but all finished and working perfect. Did full membrane cleaning and tested water....Ready to leave Friday for Bimini to give it a full work out. Thank you Tom for all the help on this project. Your Oklahoma blue print made it easy.

That is a work of art. Great work you do.

Just aft of the large round Glendinning cable master bin on the starboard side in the ER.
