Quick question, need some thoughts. Windlass issues....I converted to all chain, which is great. However, nearly everytime I’m bringing up the anchor, inevitably, the main breaker in the ER pops. I’ve gotten good at running down there, taking off the main panel and resetting it, but it’s annoying. Yes, I’ve been doing this for many years and know what I’m doing, no I’m not ‘pulling’ the boat toward the anchor, yes the diesels are running and batteries strong. I’m literally right over it, it comes up fine, but the windlass breaker pops, without binding. At the slightest hint of tension, pops. Any thoughts?

Have you checked the connections? I would do a deep dive on those, look for the loose or poor connection from anchor back to the breaker. Tighten everything up....

I’ll start by pulling everything off and taking a nail file to each connection, clean them and tightening it all back up. Curious if anyone else had these issues.

Hey guys.

We had a pretty rainy weekend last week so I was thinking of setting at least one of my A/C units to dehumidifier when we buttoned her up. Do any of you do that? Does it make any difference? Your thoughts...Thanks!

All the time, I leave all three cabin units on dehumidify mode during the week. It won’t cool the cabin, but it certainly keeps it dry and odor-free. They cycle independently of each other twice a day.

I do often... I have a temp humidity gauge in the cabin with the camera looking at it. It has high and low temp and humidity. Dehumidifier setting works great...I just keep the one on in the salon

Assuming you have the VG4, here is another idea and this happened to me - That O-ring number 9, the two duckbill valves and spacer number 10 are sometimes difficult to get in correctly and allow the pump to seat on the tank as well as seat/seal those two duckbill valves below it. I found that if the pump assembly doesn't sit tight and stable on the tank before the bolts are installed there is something awry below it. Might want to take another look at that...

Update on leaking vacuum generator:
As you recommended ttmott it was the #9 gasket. I finally received and replaced it today and bingo... works perfectly again. The old gasket was squashed out and was the cause of the leak. I should have replaced it along with the others that I replaced when I did the rebuild.

Thank you for your help.

This is great info as I get ready to tackle this project in the next couple weeks....

I have considered this but had a buddy in California that did this and the pump failed, cracked and sunk his boat. Since then I have always installed dehumidifiers that drain in the sinks.

Any of you guys know if the element in our water heater is replacable? I am getting "stinky" water coming out of the water heater and I know the element is the cause. I just haven't gotten back there to take apart the heater yet to figure out if it has a replacable element.

This is on my to-do list too. My element takes a very long time to heat up, so I’m sure there is calcification on the element. While I haven’t tackled this on my 48, I have changed the element on other marine water heaters over the years, and it was an ‘that’s easier and cheaper than I expected’ project. Two wires, and basically unscrew the old element and pull it out - hoping this one is the same, but would love to hear others experience.

Thanks Sooliman. I will try this next time.

So I bought a new dinghy and launched it in my slip from my GHS hydraulic platform. Unfortunately when raising the platform up I jammed the power cord in the gap and now I can't get it out. The remote isn't responding to up or down. Is there some type of safety mode it went in being the cord is stuck? Hopefully someone can help me. Thanks.

On the pump in your engine room is a manual control
You should be able to raise or lower it from that.

To manually lower platform: Insert the handle (black metal handle, approximately 18”Long) into the Manual Pump located on the side of the power unit. Turn the “knurled” red knob, located on the “DN” solenoid, counterclockwise until it pops up (about ¼ of a turn). You are now in the manual “DN” mode. Pump the handle until the unit unlocks and lock plates are clear of locking pins on arms. Adjust sequence valve all the way out (count turns of set screw to redo setting) pump to desired depth. When you are sure that the unit is down to the desired depth, turn the red knob down & clockwise until it returns to the original position, reset sequence valve. You are now back into the normal mode. NOTE: When either of the manual modes are selected, the pump will not operate in the normal (electric) mode even though the motor may run

Game over... making water on H2O Therapy. Long weekend but all finished and working perfect. Did full membrane cleaning and tested water....Ready to leave Friday for Bimini to give it a full work out. Thank you Tom for all the help on this project. Your Oklahoma blue print made it easy.

Damn, that looks amazing! How's everyone's summer been going? I haven't been on here in awhile as things have been crazy busy for me. I went down to Cabo and got engaged and then we got a crazy idea to buy a house. So, yes we are in the process of buying a home in the San Jose Del Cabo area which is pretty amazing. We're on an incredible golf course with a view out the back of the Sea of Cortez. We'll be in the Puerto area which is only 10 minutes form the San Jose Marina. It got us thinking about buying a bigger boat and keeping it in Cabo. So, with that said, "Black Sheep" went on the market yesterday and I already have a near full price cash offer. Looks like I may be out of a boat for awhile. Looks like Grant is stil doing some amazing things and that water maker setup is outstanding! Hope you all are doing well.
