48 DA Owners Club

My dock mate has a 48DA - 2006 and his refrigerator is not getting cold. How do you get the trim off to remove it? Can the compressor be replaced? He started looking for a new unit and everything is on back order too. Is there anything to do for troubleshooting? any problems getting them out and off the boat? Hoping w a 48' its an easier project.
Thanks for any advice...Ed

Anyone have any first hand experience in removing the fridge?
Thanks....Ed

Does anyone know what this is and how to use it?

Video modulator or injector. I am guessing that input below can be seen on channel 14. You change the channel to one that is not used and that will pump the signal into that channel you select.

I haven’t done it but the trim should come apart exposing the mounting screws. My wife is waiting for mine to die as she wants the new Vitifrigo that is much larger inside. She reminds me every day!!!!

Is this an exact fit? Where would you order one from?

Ocgrant is correct it is a modulator. It takes the KVH sat signal and modulates it to a channel that can be used on the coaxial cabling shared by the Over the Air Glomex antenna going to the televisions. Typically it is set to a channel that is not used in your area. By pressing the little buttons you can change the displayed channel.
The problem is it takes a great Sat signal and dumbs it down to a poor picture and audio.

So it is used for the Glomex system?

Not really; the Glomex antenna is on the coax cabling run throughout the boat to each television. Each over the air television station can be tuned into each television. Your televisions are the "tuners" and can select the stations.
For the Sat television system to use the same coax cabling it needs to be multiplexed or grafted into that set of over the air frequencies. Yours is set to channel 14 so it now takes that frequency slot in the over the air channels. When you program the televisions to select the channels it will now add channel 14 and you can view and listen to the sat system as channel 14. To change the sat (Direct TV for example) channel, change in the sat receiver (H24 box for example) and the new channel will appear in channel 14 on the television. The possible issue is if there is an over the air channel 14 and the multiplexer is set to 14 there will be major interference and overlay. So, need to first select the over the air channels and where one doesn't exist set the multiplexer to that unused channel.
The second major issue is the sat signal is very poor when injected into the coax so picture and audio is very bad.
I got rid of all that complexity and the resulting poor television quality. All of the televisions on my boat have been upgraded with HDMI capable sets so I routed HDMI cabling throughout the boat for the satellite and kept the coax for the Glomex over the air stations. Now I simply switch the television's input to see satellite TV, or over the air HD, or blue-ray, or the boat's cameras, or the Garmin Helm, or even internet television. All in high quality video and audio. Below are the basics of my config.

My wife was extatic when the fridge broke.... And so disappointed when I fixed it with a controller :)

OC have you ever used the video system on yours?
Yes, the wifey watches TV on the boat all the time while I am tinkering. I have the Raymarine Sat system and it modulates to the front and rear staterooms via this modulator. I left it this way because I am too lazy to run HDMI cables from the receivers to the rooms. I could care less about TV when I am on the boat. I switched out the TV's for Smart ones as the kids like to stream and the old ones were not smart. For me if I want to watch a game, I use OTA and get HD so that works for me.

LOL... mine threatens to stick a knife in the coil everytime she has to defrost the freezer to remove the ice block this POS creates. My buddy who is a AC guy says there is an issue with the defrost controller as it should not ice like it does. He was actually looking at it last weekend and wanted to pul it out and play with it. I said no as I was busy with the water maker and going to Bimini next week so now was not the time.... but I may let him when I get back just to see if I can fix the "icing" issue.

Has anyone had to replace the windshield vent motors? I've had issues for the past couple of years where they would stick and then would begin to work again with a little coaxing....not this year. The starboard side won't budge and makes no noise. Is there a cellonoid or breaker for each motor that could be the problem? Port side works fine. If you have to access them, how do you get the cover panel off. It looks like its completely caulked in. I seem to remember this being discussed in the past but I can't find the answer in the thread. Thanks everyone for any help.

Friend of mine has a 2008 48 Sundancer, does anyone know what size or model the strainer caps are for the two engines and the generator. His boat has the hand tighten screw on type clear plastic lids. I am not near the boat at the moment but I would like to order them up for him as one is cracked.

I see there are three sizes online.

My engine Strainers are GROCO ARG-2500
Believe the generator is and ARG-1000 but don't have a picture of it handy

I just replaced the vent actuator motor on my 420. Bought it from Progressive Automations. Easy to do. To confirm your suspicions, yes, that caulk has to be "cut" and the panel removed to access the actuators. I have read that people have just "re-caulked" with an appropriate color bathroom caulk, since it is protected. Before you wire it in "permanently" check the wiring and the switch to make sure that you have it correct. Easy project.

This is the one I got for my 420. Yours may be different. https://www.progressiveautomations.com/products/mini-linear-actuator?variant=18277278482499

Check back in this thread, i believe @ocgrant did this repair.
Ands yes, to access them, that panel is caulked in, and/or the vent on the front can come off. That vent is held on by double sided emblem tape.
