48 DA Owners Club

Great day on the water... Tried to leave early knowing the southern wind was supposed to blow by 3pm. Well daughter late and wind came early. Ran up the coast to Pompano and grabbed a mooring ball for a couple of hours then back to Lauderdale to float in Lake Sylvia off the ICW and cook some burgers. Great day and lots of Sea Rays out today also anchored up in the lake. Everything worked great for the first real pleasure run in the ocean. Passed the owner of Home Depot "Dream Boat" who is tide up in Lauderdale with his family quarantining in luxury... Even my Basset Hound was in boating mode today. Great day had by all.....

Dream Boat was in the Bahamas when we stopped there on a Royal Caribbean cruise early last month. It’s a gorgeous boat.

Need help chasing a lighting issue:

Finally able to get onto the boat to start my spring maintenance. I plugged in the batteries to start charging them up and turned on lights throughout and when I tried to turn on the main salon cabin lights nothing came on. There are 4 switches at the top of the stairway, the bilge lights work, cockpit courtesy lights work, the main salon light and the indirect lights do not work. So I think I have a bad ground wire somewhere. So the question is, does anyone know where the ground wires would be for these lights? Has anyone experienced this issue that good shed some light on this situation.... ha ha, I couldn't resist adding a little humor.

Thanks,
JB

Even though they are 12v lights did you have all the AC shore power switches on? Those run off the Port and Starboard accessories switches on the lower panel. Not understanding why they did that but I ran into the same issue when I bought the boat.

This was the same thing I found on our boat.

Ok so planning the first trip to Bahamas probably Bimini for mid June and will plan for a week living on the boat. So need to start the “spares” list of what to keep in the locker. No West Marine on the islands so need to be prepared. Don’t want a trip ruined over a “part”. So far I have the following what else would you bring?
1. Engine water pump impellers
2. Generator water pump impeller
3. Sureflo fresh water pump
4. AC cooling pump
5. QSC belts
6. Shower Sump pump

What else?
Any Cummins sensors you would recommend to keep a spare of?

Good ones where is the fusable link for the thruster? Need to know what to buy.

Are these a known issue on Cummins? This is my first set of Cummins's before I had CAT's and never had starter issues. If it is then i am definately going to stock one in the "spares" locker.

I didn’t know before mine failed....started the boat went around the corner to the gas dock...filled up ...port wouldn’t crank just dead... mechanic came out and jumped it on the solenoid itself ... he didn’t have one and Cummins happened to be in the marina...he came over had a few in the truck changed it out in a few minutes...said he replaced 5 in the last two weeks... I now carry a spare...$22

Pro tip: You don't need to remove the bolts.....just loosen them. Ask me how I learned that one!

The fuses for my thrusters are located on the back side of the bulkhead behind the port engine just above the thruster batteries.

Ok so just scored a new Fusion RA770 for $150 off which means on to phase 4 of the stereo install which I was not planning to do for another month but couldn't pass up on this. I went to the boat and removed the Clarion unit so I could bring home and re-face the panel in the cabinet since I no longer need a CD changer. While removing the Clarion unit I figured I could catch a look at how to run cables to the help from there since I want to run a NEMA 2000 cable up to my MFD's so I can interface the Fusion with them. To my surprise I didn't see a straight forward path to get there. Can anyone chime in and tell me the easiest way to get cables from stereo cabinet to the helm before I go start pulling everything apart?

Also very curious on this.

Is the 200 amp fuse for the thrusters or engines. The post above lead me to think this was associated with engines.

The 200 Amp fusible link that I shared was for my bow thruster. On my 2004 420, it is located on the engine room bulkhead starboard of the centerline. The batteries for my bow thruster are in the center of the engine room, forward.
