48 DA Owners Club

I totally agree, the 48DA checks off just about every box except for cabin space, for a 48 the staterooms and heads are very small and there's minimal storage. The cockpit and aft area make up for most of this, but no boat is perfect.

I've also noticed my insurance on my 48DA has increased 20-30% every year for the past 3 years. It's getting a bit ridiculous, I'm with travelers now and haven't been able to find a lower premium, I've called around and the general consensus is that premiums on larger boats have increased disproportionally more than boats over 30ft or so. It starts to chisel away at the ownership experience when expenses go up like that every year. Anyone in the same boat? (excuse the pun, lol.)
Where are you located? If you’re claim free - my premiums have been consistent over the past few years. I left Travelers a few years ago because of their annual increases, but they’re an excellent carrier when the claims happen.

I'm located in the NE, NJ to be more specific. I was with Brit Global like 4 years ago, their rates were very good but they abruptly stopped writing yacht polices, haven't been able to find anything good since, I've never had a claim so it's frustrating. I'm probably still paying less than fellow 48DA owners in the southeast, but for up here the season is only 6 months and the boat is laid up for 50% of the year. Plus I'm only covered to navigate from Maine to Norfolk I think (approx) without adding a rider to the policy. Good to know at least they're good with claims!

I also have Travelers and they increased by about 25% total over the past 2 years but they are very good when it comes to claims. Their price the first year was very low and speaking to one of their underwriters I found out they had what amounted to a new customer discount the first year. I’m paying about $1,650 with the same travel area you have but for 7 months in the water.

There has been a lot of talk on this forum lately about selling or not. After much contemplation we've decided it's time for us. We love our boat and it is a very hard decision to say goodbye to it. But the timing makes sense for us.

Share details with us when you can! Maybe even before you list it. We all know people who want our boats.

48DA is probably the perfect boat for us but the price is a touch out of reach for now.

I'm sure it will sell quickly!

Absolutely! It’s a 2007 black hull with dual teak decks and hydraulic platform. Dual Ray marine E140w and FLIR camera. About 870 hours on motors. Can’t remember genny hours off top of my head. I’m pretty meticulous and try my best to keep the boat spotless. Ceramic polish every spring on hull and topside and gets washed weekly. Would love to see someone from this forum be able to keep her going with the same passion we all seem to share. Not sure how or if direct message works here so will share my cell phone for anyone interested. Paul 609-780-6291

I have been chasing a leak in my bilge for almost 2 years now. I have gone down into the bilge several times while my first mate (wife) lol… handles the helm and could not pin point it until this past weekend. I noticed a rust stain which was never there before so I started looking deeper. I found the starboard 3” exhaust hose to be the issue. See 2nd pic , it shows the crack in the hose and the rust line from the wire inside the hose. I’m thankful it didn’t let go while I was running.

Interesting... I am also chasing a leak down there. I have a couple of swim step bolts that need to be replaced from galvonic corrosion but never looked at the exhaiust pipes. On my trip home from the bahamas the bilge alarm went of twice, I figued since I was in 4-6 foot seas it came in from the vents. Now I am going to get down there and look closer at these hoses. Thanks for the tip.

Which transducer do you have a leak?

So that one is service-able and has o-rings. You should have a "plug" that came with that and is zip tied in a bag to a hose above it. (mine is). You can order a replacment o-ring kit and remove the insert while in the water, install the plug, while your put new orings on the transducer, then reinstall. This should fix your leak if it is the actual sensor leaking. If the housing is cracked and leaking that is a haul out and replace. I don't know why sea ray used the plastic housing version on our boats? They should have been bronze housings. I plan to replace mine on my next haulout to bronze.

Fixing a few dogs today..
