48 DA Owners Club

Bill, welcome to the Club Searay. I wish you well on acquiring a 48DA, it’s a great boat to own.

regarding the transmission couplers, you will want to inspect the area for small rubber particles on the top of the transmission housing and below under the engine. This would be the only sign of coupler failure prior to real mechanical issues.

the sanitation hoses can be inspected in the bilge coming off the vacuflush tanks. You will see cracking on the hoses and most likely they will be due on a 2007. I changed mine out this past spring on an 09.

Those are the particles you are looking for.

When one of my pucks in the vibration damper failed, there was black confetti all over the back of the motor.

Agree w @JB MARSHALL
it is probably time to replace all your sanitation hoses.

Thank you JB -

Well it is hot as hell here in south Florida…. Forward stateroom AC went high pressure Saturday. Did a flush today and got it working again but the high pressure climbs right to the edge. Bottom line is that front cabin just does not get enough flow from the pump. Being the farthest the pressure drops to a minimum and on a hot day it just can’t keep it cool enough. So I went and picked up a Oberdorfer 1/3 hp and got the install half finished already. Will be finished next weekend and will post more pics.

How many gph vs the original March pump? I just replaced my cockpit air pump (I was getting HPF as well) and I thought it was fine until I saw the amount of difference in water output. I was thinking of replacing the cabin pump which runs the three inside units as well.

By the way, the original pump is 1/8 HP, so that one will be a heck of a lot stronger!

1500 gph plus direct drive so much more pressure which is what we need

Amazing, I look forward to the rest of the pics when installed (and the number of times you cursed accessing the location under the batteries). It’ll be a well worth it upgrade though.

I think most of us have the random HP Failure especially for the front A/C unit.

That’s a great idea. Interesting, if this minimizes or eliminates that error?

@ttmott is the only other person I know that has the Oberdorfer pump. Hopefully he can tell us how effective that pump is at eliminating the HP errors.

I installed the same pump this past winter, and have been running it since May. Huge improvement, and no more errors.

A couple of suggestions - ditch that splitter assembly and install a plastic assembly that is 1" pipe size; that copper thing necks the pump flow down before it even gets to the hoses. Use 1" hose and fittings from the pump discharge to the splitter. I bought 3/4" ID hose to run to the forward AC unit and from that AC unit to the common drain system but haven't installed it yet.

I think searay did just that (the larger diameter plastic manifold) by the time they got to 2010

Tom you read my mind and Dave you just confirmed it. I was looking at it on the bench last night and was thinking this was restrictive. Off to the store this week to buy the parts to make a 1” manifold.

On a different note, anyone know the Bomar part number for the window seal in the bathrooms? Or the size of that window so I can call Bomar and find out. I forgot to measure mine before I left town today. I need new seals and a couple of Dogs but their customer service is useless unless you have their part numbers or window size.

Tom - I look forward to hearing what you have to do to run new lines fwd. it doesn’t look like fun!

So that was a surprise to me too. That motor is actually a 750hp WWII Lincoln Aircraft engine.
That is crazy... I would love a ride in that thing!!!
