Good afternoon. I would like to introduce myself as a new owner of a 2007 48 sundancer. This will be our first power boat after moving over from sailing. I had a very exciting 3 day delivery heading into 3-6 foot seas. I was surprised how well the boat handled in seas and docking. It is pretty cool getting to your destination in such short time.

When I get familiar with this site I'll post some pics.

I am also looking for advice on two problems that developed during the shake down cruise.

1) The washer appears to be leaking behind it. How do you access it? Water has soaked the carpet in front of the unit.

2) My port windshield wiper motor stopped working. How can I access it?

Thank You,

Bob

congrats on the new boat! Good luck with her. As I do not have the same boat as you, I will leave the answers to your questions to others who may have the answers. In the time I have been on this site, I have found the people to be very friendly and helpful.
Good Luck again. Enjoy the dark side!!

The 48DA is a great boat, congrats! Not sure how to access the washer plumbing but the wiper access is in the galley ceiling in the galley. I would first check the fuse before you mess with the acess panel.

Welcome to CSR, Bob. Congratulations on the new boat.

You came to the right place! Congrats on getting into real boating. The first thing you want to do, after sponsoring the site, is learn the search functions. Also it helps to read some of these "sticky" threads to help you with rules and site navigation: http://clubsearay.com/forumdisplay.php/17-Announcements-amp-FAQs

You will have you questions answered and hopefully have some fun while on the site.

Welcome. The 48 is a well designed vessel. The access panel to the port wiper is the oval panel above the galley. It is held in place with very strong Velcro. Try getting a stainless steel icing spatula under it to separate the Velcro. Your wipers are on one switch, so one breaker. If one works and not the other, it is probably the motor.

There is no access panel behind the washer, unfortunately. You can isolate it by turning off the water at your manifold under the floor of the cockpit. The valves should all be labeled. Then you have to pull out the washer.

Bob,

I owned a 48DA (great boat - congrats!) and my best friend also owns a 2007 48DA. He had the exact same problem with his washer, it turned out to be a loose hose. He and I both remember the dealer saying they pulled the steps to get to the back of the washer so I'm not sure if you can actually pull the washer out forward into that aft stateroom - your dealer would know or could verify with Sea Ray. It was a fair amount of work to get to the back of the washer but the actual fix was very simple (just connected the hose back).

Sincerely,
Jason F

One more thing. My carpet got soaked in front of the washer when my frosty galley freezer thawed. I saw a friend's 48DA with the same carpet stains. Beware, that if you turn off that fridge, the freezer will thaw into your aft cabin.

Wow. Thank you all. As with any, "new to you" boat I have a lot to get aquatinted to. I did send an email to Sea Ray regarding these issues hopping for some guidance.

1) Thank you for the tip about the icing spatula, I'll get one. Once I get access to the motor I will assume the motor will need replacement. Glad it was the port wiper that went out.

2) That is unfortunate advice on the washer. Thank you for the tip on the freezer, it hasn't been on long enough to accumulate water but I will watch out for the thaw. (Finally has occurred here in Michigan.) I may go pick up a camera from HD to snake back behind the washer and have a look. A simple access hatch on he side of the stairs would have been nice. I did turn off the valves to the washer on the manifold under the salon floor. The hose connectors are poorly designed and leak. I'll see if I can't write up the repair without cursing.

Thanks again,

Bob

My port wiper did not work during my sea trail. At the helm on the port side there is an access panel near your feet. In there are port and starboard push fuses, try that first.

Thank you. I will take a look.

Finding water in bilges and trying to trace back to source.

Thank you. I will take a look.

Finding water in bilges and trying to trace back to source.

Which one?
Under your cabin in front of the entertainment center: from the sump overflow hose when you go on plane
Mid cabin: from your sump overflowing due to a airlocked sump pump
Engine compartment: remove the cockpit table base, reseal and replace wood screws with bolts and nylock nuts and backing washers (everyone with a 48DA should do this today!)

I have water under the bilge access in the aft state room. We had a lot of rain and figured it got in there somehow. No water in the salon bilge other than what is draining from the fittings on the water manifold when I loosened them or tightened them. Very little water in the engine room.

I'll report more when I get more time to look at it. Thank you for the information.

That compartment has to be the driest part of my boat. I've never seen water in that one. Since you had a leak in the washer and it sits on top and uphill of that compartment, that would be my guess. I would be shocked if it were a leak from rain. The dry cockpit under the glassed in top is above that. The only other water around that is the shower drain in the aft head.

Thanks JV II. I think you are right. I ran a dehumidifier in the aft cabin and the water went down over a few days and we had rain. I'll investigate further.

Is it routine to have to have the cockpit air on to trigger the air conditioner pump? The below deck units don't trigger the pump but they turn on. No water flowing out thru hull except when cockpit is on.

I had a 2007 48DA..GREAT BOAT

1) As previously stated, wiper motor access is the removable celling panel
2) Washer leak-No access from behindas the stairs or bolted the the bulkhead. Open the washer cabinet door, unscrew the botton "holding" frame, and you can pull the washer forward. there is plenty of hose slack. Most likely a lose connection
3) Water in Aft cabin bildge. Since the aft cabin is under the helm deck I doubt it is rain water. Unless you left the porthole window open. Most likely culprut is the sump box over flowing. Find the Thread I started "48DA Mods". The sump box has a float switch and a pump. The switch is higher in the box so there is always 2" or 3" of water in there, and when you go to plane the box overflow tube just drains into the aft bildge area. Starts to smell also if you do a lot of cooking on board. Replace the 2 part system with a Rule 1 piece unit and that solves the problem. Also. KEEP THAT SUMP BOX CLEAN. grease from the galley sink collects and will affect the float operation.

Enjoy a great boat

A/C

The A/C pump breaker MUST be on for the A/C system to work, or you will get HiPs alarm from no water flow. I beleive the 48DA has 3 units for the A/C-heat and when the compressors kick on they activate the main pumps in the ER.

Thanks Rich, glad you liked the boat. We had one hell of a shake down cruise. Heavy chop and at one point had a high water alarm go off in the cabin. Slowed boat to check it out while crew held course and planned an escape route. Checked bilges and salon bilge bone dry but reached down and felt pump running. I gave it a wrap with my knuckles and it stopped. The adrenalin ran high for the next hour.

i have engaged the ac pump before turning on the cabin units. They don't kick on the pump like the cockpit unit does. They all worked fine at sea trial but I think I ran them all at once.

That is good to hear about the washer. I tried taking off the trim but the lower trim would wedge against the hull. I just need to trim a little off and that should let me get it out. My other thought was to just take the hoses off the water manifold and cap them off. I don't see us using the washer.

Got it, Velcro on ceiling panel. I've seen other things velcroed so I understand the effort needed to remove it. I'll get an icing spatula as suggested.

The sump has not over flowed for me but I remember your write up. Before commissioning I threw a couple Cascade enzyme dishwasher tabs in there. The sump was black and now it's almost clean. I'll do another round of washer tabs and see how it goes. I'm new to the sump box world. I thought of putting in a half tab of a hot tub bromine tab to keep it clean as maintenance but the washer tabs did better than expected.

i did see signs of where at some point in history the sump over flowed and I'll change it out to your suggested pump. Just adding it to the list.

Hopefully you are all in agreement, any boat, especially used, will have some issues that pop up as you get to know your boat. I'm glad mine are all minor.

Engines and generator ran perfectly and oil analysis was good from last seasons oil.

Bob

There is only one breaker for the AC pump but there are two pumps in the engine room. Make sure the seacock is open and both pumps are running.
