Just recently, I've had an issue when switching on shore power. The salon AC unit will not turn on. No power, lights, anything, for either a few hours or a day or so after plugging into shore power. The stateroom AC works fine; as does everything else on the vessel. No tripped GFIs or blown fuses.

I have had similar issues in the past and have found Al at Beard Marine very helpful. They are on this forum.

Have you checked the circuit breakers in the engine room ? Mine are located stern of port engine....

How about the breakers in the trunk? There should be two breakers in there near the power 110 plugs. One might be tripped.

You can go to the main panel and switch on both lines with the panel breakers. Turn on both A/C units. If the forward unit runs ok and doesn't trip off with a HIPS error code (high head pressure) then the breakers are ok and not tripped. The circulating pump is powered by line 1, the same one that powers salon A/C unit. If the circulating pump is running and cooling the coils on the forward A/C unit, then the salon unit has power because both are fed by line 1.

This sounds like an AC controller or trigger issue to me.....sticky contacts, low voltage, etc. so I'd start looking there. My other thought is that a failing compressor can intermittently lock up, but that isn't likely because that problem is accompanied by a noise much likea monkey trapped under the salon seat banging on a paint can with a 2# hammer and tripped A/C breakers on the main panel.
