my boat has been listing and I have ruled everything out but a water logged core. 1995 440 express bridge with likely balsa. How does one fix?

If you must use your boat right now, counter weight to balance it, then work your tail off looking for the problem. Maybe get a couple buddies to lend a hand as these leak sources can be very hard to locate. You know, those buddies that you take out for a boat ride, or to go fishing and never get any fuel contributions or when its time to scrub the boat down...those buddies. ;)

I wish you the best of luck and hopefully you can find the source in short order. There are some tricks of the trade that may be posted on this site or over on THT.

Before the fix you have to locate it. Someone familiar with your boat might be able to help but that can include a boroscope, taking as many panels or pieces out of the interior as possible, and drilling inspection holes. I’ve done it on both of our boats. No core issues, but leaking stanchions and windows can lead to water finding it’s way into odd places and getting trapped.

I hope it’s not a wet core but rather trapped water, much easier to fix. Sea Ray may be able to provide you with the drawings for your boat to make inspection easier.

You boat has a know issue with your engine room vents that are in the hull.that’s a common leak point, invest/rent a moisture
Meter and have at it all over the boat but check your hull vents first

I have got the drawings from Searay. Have explored the entire interior and no trapped water. Hate to say it, but core is next place to look. Boat is coming out for annual clean in march and will take a moisture meter to hull. many thanks

any idea where to find info on known hull vent issue?

If the hull is water soaked (the balsa wood) the only real fix is to cut open the hull, remove the damaged wood and replace, then reattach the fiberglass. Depending on the area damaged it may require fuel tank removal as well as engine removal to properly repair.

I had a survey done on a 44EB and when we got to the hull the starboard side from the engine vents forward about 10 feet were delaminated. Yard quoted to the broker $15,000 to repair, and my surveyor told me not to trust the estimate as he felt it could go upwards to $40K if the damage was more substantial. Needless to say I rejected the boat and cancelled the contract.

I looked at several 44EB afterwards and every one except one showed signs of water intrusion into the hull. SR did a crappy job by not molding the vent opening into the hull.
