All,
I am in the process of creating a NEAMA2000 network for my Garmin Chart plotters to receive data from Smartcraft to VV. However, can this same network be the GPS for the VesselView? My GPS is not currently working and I do not have the Skyhook feature etc. I just bought the boat this year and it came that way. I have a guy helping me that knows those networks but not sure how to get GPS on Vessel View to work. Can someone help me with this issue? The boat is 2008 with Zues Pods and 420 Cummins Engines.

What model VesselView do you have? If it's the original, I don't think VV became NMEA 2000 capable until early 2010's or so. That would call into question whether your guy can truly get engine data from Smartcraft to your Garmins. But, if your VV is NMEA 2000 capable and a connection is established to the Garmins for engine data, the same connection will provide navigation data the VV can use as NMEA 2000 is two-way. If you do have an older VV, then it should have come with a one-way NMEA 0183 connection that provided navigation data from your original MFD to the VV.

Regardless of the vintage VesselView, i don't think SkyHook will work without the flux gate compass functioning correctly. I had to replace mine when I first got the boat. Separate and distinct from the GPS antenna I have on my NMEA 2k network (Raymarine RS-150)

You are correct but I bought the adapter for CAN to NEAMA 2000 adapter that came out in 2012. So this should solve that problem and maybe my whole issue.

I see the compass just like the one in the picture. How is that configured with the overall network?

You need the mercury software to confirm its operation. Unfortunately, it requires a dealer code and activation code, so it isn't something that is available to mere mortals.

i believe it is the mercury cds g3 software
