I have a 2008 44 sedan bridge that I noticed was listing starboard today. It's to the point where the exhaust scupper is almost touching the water. I noticed that that scupper/flap is missing from the through hull while investigating.

Has anyone experienced this before?
If so, suggestions?

Weight distribution is fine, although I am carrying full fuel tanks. Bilge and all visible bilge areas are dry.

Has the toilet been used a lot? If so fresh water from centreline tanks may have moved to an off-centre holding tank.

A worse scenario is you have a water logged starboard hull laminate.

I take it the vessel is not tight on its dock lines.

The vessel is not tight on the lines. We have been on board forca week and the head has been used a lot, but we had a pump out earlier today.

You haven't added a couple of extra batteries/genset etc recently have you?

Even assuming the docking lines are not tight, I read somewhere that a boat will always lean towards it docking lines. The author suggested turning the boat around to prove the point. My boat leans to its docking lines but I do have some inbalances that may also account for that.

I'll see if that helps. Nothing new has been added. I believe it's recent, but it does not appear to be getting worse.

Does your boat have a cored hull? If so could it be that the hull is picking up moisture (and weight) on one side? The only reason I bring this up is because of the article that Frank Webster posted on CSR awhile back about repairing wet cored hulls. In that article, Frank points out the owner first noticed his boat listing like you describe yours is doing.

If you haven't already read Frank's write up you may want to take a look at it. It is the second article on the Home page of Clubseary.com.

My boat has a persistent starboard list as well and my exhaust flapper on that side actually sits almost half submerged when I have full fuel, water and general boat stuff loads on board. I find it takes about a 40-50 gallon differential between fuel tanks before the boat is level. I always run the genny of the starboard tank and try to store heavy items on the port side to offset it....or i just try to ignore it when sitting at the dock.

I have never heard of a boat listing to the dock line side. Could someone explain that a little better?? What would cause that! Unless the lines are so tight that they are physically pulling down on that side of the vessel. That was my only thought.

Thanks, I'll check on the cores hull, and the article did not seem so distressing.
Since there is no immediate issue and it does not appear to be getting worse, I'll work with my dealership when return this week.they have done all the repairs on the boat to date and I am comfortable with their service.

Yeah, good question. I suppose there has to be extra weight associated with the lines especially if they are wet, but would it be sufficient to be noticable? If the wind was pushing the vessel away from the dock then perhaps since the lines would go tighter then.

My boat does the same thing. I fill the water tank (on the port side) to keep her level and empty the water when I run the boat.

Where is louisrose water tank? Is it on the port side? Does the boat still list if the water tank is on the port side and filled?

I have the same problem. A wet hull has been eliminated as a potential culprit. Sea Ray is adding 500 pounds of ballast under my port side stateroom berth to try to solve this. They claim they have had this problem with the 44DB. I guess the naval architect took the afternoon off when they were sorting out the weight distribution on this model.

I'm not thrilled about carrying around and extra 500 pounds, but it's better than a persistent, annoying list. I'll let you know if it works.

Water tank is on the port side. It was full and after emptying made no difference.

I'd be interested to hear the results of this . How low will your swim platform be on the water. Previously the bottom of my platform was above the water, now the starboard side touches the water.

I have an 05' 420 sedan bridge which also has a slight list to starboard. Wondering how the 500# weight worked under the port bunk. What did dealer use for weight?

at times, my boat lists to starboard. at other times it doesn't. Can't figure it out except that the genny use will pull fuel out of one tank and that can make a difference. my boat has valves to regulate where each engine and genny take fuel from. I use those as internal trim tabs.

Same. When we bought the boat, the valves were set to take genny fuel from port. After about 20 hours of genny use, and about a 10 gallon starboard heavy imbalance, I noticed the list. Yesterday evening, out at the island, I fed the genny from starboard and returned it to port (bad idea?). At 40 gallons diff, and full water, it sits level. The port tank is almost full and the starboard is at about 3/4. We have some heavy stuff in the bilge under the galley - sodas, water, tools. I may try to move some heavier items to the space under the berth in the guest stateroom.

Recently, I have really been debating what kind of dinghy to get. I noticed yesterday that my performance was slightly off with full water, over 3/4 gas, and 5 people on board. 140 gallons of fresh water can certainly make a difference. Running near empty on the long runs will help a lot - more than a heavy dinghy's worth.

I have a 2006 44DB with the same problem. I have to use full tabs almost all the time since I have a hydraulic platform and an 11' Novurania tender. I also added a split gas A/C system for bridge air and the only place i had room for the compressor was, you guessed it, starboard side by the A/C pumps. I did notice that the generator is installed by SeaRay just starboard of the centerline and I thought maybe Florida Bow Thruster may have moved it to fit the platform hydraulics but then i checked a buddy's boat and same generator location and same list to starboard. I am going to try adding more chain to the rode to "bow down" the attitude a bit and maybe move my spare props to the bilge area under the port stateroom. hope that works.

Mojo,

Did I get it right, your bridge A/C unit is installed in the engine room by the A/C pump? I'm starting to think about adding bridge A/C, do you have any pictures?

I like your idead on adding more chain, even though I have all chain (possibly all 420/44DBs do) it sounds like a good idea, specially for those with hydroulic lifts.
