420db 8.3 cta smoking and using oil

Posting for a friend who has 8.3 Cummins 380 hrs. In 420db 2005 we came back from Florida gulf coast 8/7/11 his port motor was smoking used a gal of oil for 7 hr. trip motor seams too be running fine. Called four mech in the New Orleans area to no avail will call when they get an opening no call yet. Anyway the boost side of the turbo was full of oil going in aftercooler and smokes and back of boat was black on the port side anyone knows a good mech in the Louisiana Mississippi area are can be of any help.

It could be a oil leak in the turbo. if oild gets by the bearing seals then it can be sucked into the air stream into the engine. burning oil can be bad or stuck rings or valve seals. but the motor has low hours for any problems like that.
