We have gotten a lot of views of the venerable 420 thread, so I thought I'd start one on fall services and / or winterization of diesel boats. For grins, for the DIY guys, here is my dealer's price list for diesel boat winterization/annual services:
http://media.channelblade.com/boat_...ibraries/1521/07_WinterizationForm_Diesel.pdf
This list does not include items I consider necessary, like engine zincs, generator heat exchanger zincs, primary racor filters, transmission service, shower sump maintenance. At a labor rate of $110/hr, I assume another 600 or so bucks for all that work, so nearly 4K to have my dealer do what I did for around $300 in parts and fluids. I also replaced cracked hoses and repaired a faulty bilge pump. Add in another $300 or so for that if the dealer had done it.
As to shrink wrap, the guy I hire charges $12 a foot, or $8 less than the dealer.
No way would the Admiral put up with $2150-$2450 for straightforward services on the Thundering Cathedrals of Torque. I'd have to rename the boat "bachelor pad"
I am in the wrong line of work. Defense contracting simply does not pay compared to marine maintenance.
regards
