420/44 DB Owners Club

Hey guys, annoying issue. Plugs in guest cabin are not hot. Also the ice maker on deck has not been working. I'm hoping these are related. Is there an AC breaker somewhere that may have been tripped. All AC switches are on on the panel (except stove and washer).

Scott,

Your GFI must have tripped. Check both heads. Just remember that anytime one of the GFIs is tripped, you'll loose the whole side (every outlet on that side).

Yes, there are two drains. What I was asking is if anyone has lids to cover the drain holes. The lids should be attached on the ER hatch. I wanted to see what they look like, as mine were never there.

I was puzzled for a while why do I get sea water on my tool box, I found an answer while doing some checking during a cruise. When seas hit the hull the water rushes through those drain holes right in to the ER. Obviously it's all in controlled fashion when ER hatch is closed, but when it's open, you're looking at two fountains.

After discovering this, I realized that I'm missing two small lids from the ER hatch. So, I'm trying to find the replacement.

I had this same problem. Didn't require heavy seas - just a heavily-loaded boat and low to medium cruise speed. I suspect the problem is that the floor is so flat that it goes below the waterline when the stern "squats". The thru-hulls for the drains go below the waterline and then flows backwards up thru the drains. I installed a pair of http://www.defender.com/product.jsp?path=-1|51|2234261|2234268&id=160644

I was thinking about check-valves, but wasn't sure if the water will be able to drain through them. It's just gravity, no pump "pushing" the water through. How's your experience with these valves from Defender? Does the water drain out with no problem?

I was under way yesterday and popped the lazarette hatch to see how the motors were doing since I just services them. Cruising 2100 rpm, on a slow plane. When the hatch opened, I have the same backflip issue with those hatch drains. I can't believe I hadn't noticed it before!

Same question as Alex... Wondering how much pressure has to build for those check valves to let water through?

Thanks! I also saw a review on iBoats that said there is no pressure needed on the push side. I'll be picking up a pair!

Did you have to use anything fancy beyond some stainless hose clams to secure?

Does anyone know if there is a refrigerator that fits the dimensions of the ice maker in the cockpit?

Mine has a Norcold DE-0041 in that spot. You might have to modify the opening to fit trim pieces, etc... (not sure) but there is a TON of room there under the helm stairs.

I'd be surprised if the floor drops below the waterline. But maybe.

This problem surprises me a bit. If I was getting water through those drains then the lip of the hatch would be wet. And wouldn't it just drain right back down the hole? I've never noticed any moisture on the lip, just dead bugs.

I do get some moisture while underway from the shaft area and it rolls down to the rear bilge pump. Any ideas? Dripless seals?

Re: 420/44 DB Owners Club Salon TV

You have to remove the screws located inside the stereo compartment (open the smoked glass doors), there are 2 wood screws each on the left and on the right side. If I remember right only the lower ones need to be removed. Once you removed the screws, the TV is only held by the Velcro behind the TV and you can pull it away from the wall and the TV will swing down, don't let it fall!
i assume you will want to replace the TV with a digital model. If that is the case, I can send you a picture of how I did it.

Manfred

I relocated the vent filter behind the generator fuel selector switches. The fitting is right behind it, cut the hose and used hose fittings from Home Depot to put a new filter in line of the hose. I left the original vent filter on the holding tank, solved my problem with the odor when somebody flushes.

I had noticed that problem during year 1. Lifted the back hatch while a friend was running the boat at cruising speed. Water was shooting out in spurts with the hatch open.
Dealer installed check valves into each drain hose during under warranty. Problem solved!

I have a 44 Sedan Bridge for sale right now email me for more info and pictures 06' listed for 299k well below marker value and in amazing condition.
