Want to do the galley but would like freezer on the bottom. Am told freezer on bottom not very efficient?
It would depend on the model, I guess.

The one I have is two separate units, each with their own compressor, and the bottom being a freezer drawer. The freezer is truly a freezer. Just like with residential units, bottom drawer freezers or chest freezers are usually best as the cold air stays in them when opened.

Do you mind posting the model you went with?

Wish we could do drawers but setup is similar to @Todd P. has in his galley. @ttmott i guess the thought would be that the fridge up top would fight to stay cold. This was all from a vendor at a boat show so who knows. could be based on what they had in stock.
This is the arrangement we have, Vitrifrigo DW250:

That looks like the winner! But it comes at a price. I have some saving to do.

I installed the Nova Kool freezer on bottom. The unit has two compressors seems to be very efficient. It’s much bigger than the old Norcold. No pictures as the boat is hibernating until spring

I also installed the Nova Kool RFU9000 in the galley. It is almost 50% larger than the NorCold I took out. It fits in the same opening with some minor trimming. There are a few screw heads to clearance on the opening and the electrical box needs to be moved outboard.

I would have been OK even if I had to do more work to install it. I really like the freezer on the bottom but most importantly, the Admiral likes it.

The old fridge would freeze up way faster than the Nova Kool too.

I did the same thing in with the cockpit fridge by increasing the volume. It involved more cutting but nothing a sawzall couldn't solve. I installed a Nor Cold 751 that is twice the capacity as the old one. The one that was in the boat when we got it was very small. 1.5 cu ft if I recall and the Nor Cold is 3.

You may remember that I’ve had a trimming issues since my boat has the hydraulic swim platform which has been made slightly worse after I had the transom module repositioned aft by 2.5 feet. I made the tabs bigger to compensate but the single ram couldn’t overcome the water pressure. I added a second ram but same. It was fine if you started with the tabs down but if you bought them up they’d never go back down because of the back pressure. Bennet in Florida were contacted and they suggested a 3rd ram …. :-(.

Well, last week I finally pulled the trigger and installed Zipwakes. But I’m keeping the tabs (albeit cut slightly smaller now).

Edited to remove some pics

Hope they will work in the prop pockets. Did the Manuf. say anything about that location?

No consultation was made with the manufacturer. Just the Zipwake rep’s. They didn’t see any issues with the location.

Edit: They have special tunnel zipwakes but they’re not needed for our boats.

Interesting, was going to comment about them having a tunnel version. Is any of the surface area hitting the water when not deployed?

Here’s a better picture. Our tunnels are flat at the top.

Took her for a run today - Achieved 29 knots WOT (2650 rpm) but left the Zipwakes on auto with no input or adjustments from me. Up until now I never achieved more than 28 knots.

Did you try fully deploying the Zipwakes? If so, how did the boat respond. I’m curious to know if you can really get the bow down to plow/cut through waves. Also, are you able to get a more efficient cruise speed?

I didn’t go out for long so didn’t get a chance to play with them. They were on auto only. I’ll keep you posted when I take her out again for longer sea trials.

If I play with them and get another knot that will be a 2 knot gain and a she’ll be a 30 knot boat.. So I’m guessing one or two hundred RPM less for the same cruise speed.

My boat had a very high bow angle but it is now way less.

Did you have to fiberglass a pad into the transom to mount the Zipwakes?
They screwed and bonded some plywood wedges to the transom.
