How is everyone storing their isinglass canvas? I thought about rolling it up around a pool noodle or something similar with an old bed sheet to protect but wondering if someone here has a better idea, also what are your thoughts on storing it during the summer in a large dock box?

I took a 4x6 sheet of plywood and laid it on a 2x4 table and laid it out flat with a sheet between each piece.

The bridge enclosure was a breeze to deal with compared to the camper top we had built for this 420DA. It is massive and takes 2-people to deal with it…

Make sure it is clean and roll it up in cotton bed sheets. Works great! Be careful storing in the dock box during the summer. On my last set I wound up with the imprint of a zipper molded into one panel after an extremely hot day.

Finally our new ride is on its way I’m sure all the great posts on the forum will come in handy if I come across any problems looking forward it’s arrival

The problem on these boats is storage space for them whether rolled or laid flat. Are you thinking of leaving the bridge canvas off for the summer months in Sacramento? If you live fairly close to the boat I would opt to clamp them together and hang them in the garage. I did that with the panels on my Rinker 350 when we kept it in Lake Berryessa and they remained like new for years with no creases.

I wonder if anyone makes a portable trash compactor? I have a trash compactor on the 506 but of course the galley is much larger than the 44. It sure makes trash management a breeze. We spend four days with four people on the boat and took out the trash 3/4 full on Monday afternoon! If I still had the 44 I would take out the washing machine and install a compactor under the stairs with room to spare for a nice stackable storage unit of some kind.

Maybe something like this?

Thats what we do but my garbage can is not that fancy. I kinda like this one though. With 2 kids it fills up fast. If it was under the sink it would be a mess.
Mine is in the forward starboard corner of the cockpit just below the outdoor TV. Apologies for the quality of the picture, it was the only one I could find...

Open to suggestions though..

Ok, phase 1 of the microwave convection oven and refrigerator replacement is complete. It will be a few weeks before the fridge arrives.

Replacing the microwave was pretty straightforward overall. The fridge had to be pulled out, which was probably the biggest part of the job, and a little cutting had to be done.

Step 1: Remove Trim
- Getting the trim off the fridge without breaking it was likely the trickiest part of this job.
- There are six tabs on the inboard side of the trim:

- Below is a cross section of the trim (the tabs are item 10)
- After some experimenting I found the easiest way to get it off was to start at one end (I started at the bottom) and insert a thin, flat-head screwdriver where the red arrow is an carefully pry at each tab.

Step 2: Remove Refrigerator
- The fridge comes out easily with six screws, three on each side
- I used a moving blanket to protect the floor and use to slide it out
upload_2021-6-5_9-47-45.png

- There is lots of 12V power cord and drain tube. I unplugged the 120V.
- I turned off the fridge while moving it, then turned it back on to keep cool using the 12v DC

Step 3: Remove the Microwave
- There are four screws on the underside of the microwave shelf to be removed.
- The plug for the microwave is behind the fridge, I assume to keep it away from heat?
- Note that the galley vent fan pulls through a Y, with one vent going to the galley and the other to the back of the microwave (I am not sure this is required with this new unit, but I left as is).
- I would prefer to have the outlet in the microwave cabinet to make future removal easier...may relocate when I replace the fridge.

- The trim comes off easily with 4 screws

Step 4: Enlarge the Opening
- Pretty simple. Essentially you just need to square-off the cutout by removing the vent holes as well as the associated sub-structure.

- After a test fit I used a 1/4" sheet of plywood and a 1/8" sheet of melamine to raise the microwave 3/8" for proper spacing with the new fridge
upload_2021-6-5_10-3-38.png

- This comes in 24x24 sheets, but the depth needed to be cut-down to 19" to fit.

Step 5: Install New Microwave
- Easy step. Microwave came with the vent kit pre-installed. Attached the trim bezel, run the power cord, slide it in.

- Drill the cabinet and install six screws

Step 6: Reinstall the Fridge
- Another easy step. Plug it in, slide it into position (be careful of the wall on the left), replace 6 screws.

- You can see the top fridge trim/bezel overlaps the microwave trim. This won't be the case with the new fridge (if my cypherin' is correct!). The new fridge should need to be raised about 3/4" to 7/8" for the flange to cover the old hole.

One thing I didn't expect with this microwave is it doesn't install flush. This wasn't obvious from the pictures or documentation.

It does look good though, and works very well it seems. Extremely quiet. I reached my max images for this post. Will post a picture next.

Just need the fridge to arrive. It appears I will need to shave about 1/16" off the cutout width. Maybe I'll get lucky. It looks like the power outlets are in the way though. I will need about another inch or so of depth. If I had gotten the surface mount version instead of the flush mount, I don't think this would have been a problem. Would have looked better with this particular microwave too. Oh well...

Note that the oven model is a Muavé MUCMKT120S. It came as a single PN from Defender.

Here is a pic showing how the install is not flush:

Nice job Brian! it looks great. We have a Panasonic convection microwave and really like the convection option. With the inverter, we can run it off the batteries.

Beautifully done, Brian! I think you or someone raised the question about using 24v instead of 12v. Mine has 2 seperate fridge with 2 compressors. The frige man checked the power draw on the 12v. With one unit running, there is no significant drop but 2v drop with both units running. I plan to run another 10g wire to the control panel for a seperate power to one of the 2 units. You might test your loaded power drop in case you wonder.

It came with the boat when I bought it a couple of months ago. Unfortunately, the cooling plate leaks at the top fridge. Vitrifrigo said the plate is not replaceable. The back is riveted and glued (argh!). The entire top frige has be replaced. After searching and calling mulitple places, I finally placed an order for October delivery from Italy! Wish I had a cheap one I could easily replace.

It’s certainly the mother of all fridges .. One thing that bugs me right now is the lack of fridge space for beverages. Thinking seriously of a eutectic fridge arrangement just not sure where. Under the back seat? Convert the storage box on the RHS of the bridge? Other??

Be interested to hear if anyone else has added a 3rd fridge/cooler option?

For Memorial weekend we invites good friends along and they brought one of these filled with food and spirits. Car Fridge Freezer Cooler Mini Refrigerator 47.5qt Portable Lg Compres – Vevor US I was very impressed with it. It is a nice size to stow in the cockpit . We stowed it in the third unoccupied stateroom.
