420/44 DB Owners Club

For what it is worth we have two fresh water pumps on GT which were 3 GPM and I believe 45PSI which could be wrong on the PSI. We only need to run one so I'm not really sure why there are two but since there were I replaced the failed pump with a 2 GPM same PSI pump. My logic was simple, 120 gallon tank / by 3 GPM and you're out of water in 40 minutes of run time. Pump #1 which is the 2 GPM same PSI gave me 60 minutes of run time and with the same PSI you can't really tell the difference. Doesn't sound like much but it just gave me 50% more running time with the same PSI. Can't tell any difference much difference and we use the tank all the time. I don't like hooking to hose straight to the boat as this way we always have fresh water cycling through the tank.

Boats in storage now. The forward bilge pan where the two main seacocks go thru the hull always has water in it. No trace coming from aft or sides. I've never heard the pump run but if I vacuum it up it will be back the next day. Any ideas for tracking this down and eliminating?

Thanks
Scott

Scott,

I think the fact that the pump doesn't go off is b/c as soon as you get underway, the water gets moved to the stern and gets removed by the stern bilge pump. I would inspect the transducer for leaks, as a possible cause.

I'm building some Dinghy Davits for my 44DB and my Baltik 8.5' dinghy. I'm using the Dom Dinghy Davits method and having Masterfab (Dale) make the hinges that slide into the Weaver receivers. I have a couple of questions:

When Dale makes the hinges he can add an extension of up to 10". I want the dinghy to be far enough back to allow space to walk on the platform, but I don't want the extensions to be longer than they need to be. So how long should the extensions be?

Does anyone know the dimensions of the platform on the 44DB?

Has anyone installed the Weaver receiver plates on their platform? If so, how close to the edge were you able to get them?

I'm planning to use the snaptoggle system (stainless version http://www.toggler.com/) to get the nuts into the integrated platform instead of trying to reach from the bilge, has anyone used these on the 44DB platform? Question is: how close to the edge can I get and have room to insert the snaptoggles.

Having just dealt with similar discussions, I don't have exact dimensions, but can give you an idea. There is a fairly solid build up towards the outboard edge of the platform, but we figured that as long as we were at least maybe 2-3 inches, you have room for your togglers. I wouldn't go much less than that. The end of the platform also has a little raised lip. Just FYI.

I recall the platform being 30-32" deep at center. You are about 12' between the cleats at the stern of the boat.

In terms of extensions -- assuming you are 30" from the stern locker with zero extension, you would have roughly zero space to maneuver on the platform if your tender is 60" wide. If I were you, I'd get every inch of extension you can get - as you will have more freedom for positioning. Assuming you put the weaver mounts 2" from the end of the platform, that gives you 8" of extension? And when you space out more like 5-6' apart, your platform depth is a little less. You'll need some room to still have your storage locker accessible. And if you ever want a larger air floor dinghy (a 9'6'' achilles would be VERY nice back there) - they are a bit wider - so you would need that extension room.

Your challenge is going to be tie downs and securing the tender back there.

Does anyone have the transom dimensions on the 44DB? I need to get started on getting the name on the boat.

I will be at our boat Sat or Sunday this weekend. Let me know what dimensions you are looking for still (even for your previous davit) -- I'll try and put them together!

Thanks cougar. I'll be down at the boat this weekend too, so I'll get them. I'll post them so others can use.

Has anyone replaced all the carpeting in a 2005 420 Sedan Bridge (including the stairs and along the galley wall)? Any lessons learned? Cost? I saw one that had a wood floor put in the salon that matched the wood floor in the galley. Does anyone have any experience having a wood floor put in instead of carpeting?

Riddle me this one..... Sea Ray said that my bennett actuators on the trim tabs (that are non operational) were standard length. Bennett cross referenced the Sea Ray part and confirmed that for me... So I bought new actuators.

When I went to haul out yesterday.... no no no, I don't have standard actuators... I have short actuators.

Do any other 420/44 owners know which one's they have? Either my tabs are not stock, or Sea Ray has a mistake in their build list for our boat.... These are definitely the short actuators

12 X 24 is pretty large. You are limited by flat areas on the hull and transom. And the boat is already very well balanced.

Here are the rough dimensions of the transom on my 44DB. Note, these are only rough dimensions (I measured only once, and rounded a bit). Should help you if you're trying to do lettering. I've got the file in Visio and PDF format if anyone wants it - PM me.

Safety concern: I was cleaning my aftercoolers and I had to move the fire suppression system to get the core out. In doing so I noticed that the pin was still in place on the big red extinguisher which would prevent the manual switch at the helm from working in the event of an emergency. Probably came from the factory that way and was never setup properly. You might want to check yours.

I'm considering adding SAT tv to the 44db. Anyone have recommendations for mounting on the arch considering the radar is up there?

I would strongly consider SeaVew.

I also recommend seaview along with Alex. It is a combo mount that mounts your radar along with your sat tv dome.
