I have a 2000 410 Sundancer and love the boat. One of the small issues I have with it is that the back lighting for the switches on the dash do not work. I tried to order a new rope light from Sea Ray and no luck. Has anyone replaced these with an aftermarket LED rope or strip light?

Let me know your thoughts and experiences.

Brian, have you checked to make sure the dimmer isn't all of the way down? I have not played with the backlights (yet) on my boat but it is something that may be upgraded in the near future.

I have tried the dimmer, went full up and down. The gauge lights will dimm with the switch so I am assuming the dimmer is OK. Just no light at all with the panel switch backlights.

Okay, it must be the lamp (lamps) then. I would be interested in wouldn't LED rope light would do. There has been some talk of that here so maybe do a search and see if you can find a prior thread with that information. I'll do a search as well, just later since I have chores to do before the games start!

I think that is going to have to be the direction I go, we do a ton of night cruising and being able to see which switch is which (say that 5 times fast) would be nice!

Brian,

If its anything like my boat (1997 330) the bulbs are actually 110 VAC. I have a little transformer that steps up the voltage from 12 VDC. It's about a 1" square. Mine fried and with it the back panel lighting went out. I'm not sure if Sea Ray carries the part separately.

Todd and Rick, thanks for the ideas. There is a little black brick behind the dash that my indeed step the voltage up from the 12V to 110. I will have to check it out when I can get to the boat this spring. SeaRay does not currently stock any of these parts. They told me they were going to have one custom made for me for $75 but I never heard back from the dealer.

Todd, by the way my last boat was a 97 330 Sundancer, had the boat for 8 years and loved every minute of it. My kids started to get big and we moved up last year to the 410. Love it even more!

Thanks again!

Brian,

There are little transformers available on eBay for a lot less. When I'm at my computer I will look up my old thread and see if I can find them. That's what I am going to try this spring.

As far as boats go, stepping up later is my plan too!! If I had the $$ now I would buy Roberts (shadow9999) 410 DA. I know him personally and he keeps his boats top notch! I will get there eventually. I've only had this one 3 seasons and last year was basically a wash for me.

That looks like the way to go for sure! Thanks for all the great ideas!
