410 Performance problem

After reviewing this thread I'm wondering if spending all that money was necessary.

Dude, take a look at post #2 you had the right answer 1 hour and 7 minutes after you asked the question.......... and it was free.

"Clean the bottom" and in post #59 "need to clean the bottom".

I am thinking some of the things that were done probably didn't make much of a difference but they are scheduled service items at the 1000 hour service. I have only 585hrs but it won't hurt. My main problem here is I didn't have the boat surveyed before I boughtt it and went off what my diver was telling me. Won't make that mistake again!

I will be the contrarian here with regards to prop scanning. There is so much crap that floats in the Potomac, and branches and other wood scraps that slowly waterlog and sink just below the surface, that for me scanning would be a waste. I smack something nearly every time we go out between March and June. If I can turn WOT with no vibration, my wheels are "good enough."

Your boating experience may vary.

Not so fast.....Although cleaning the bottom on his boat did get him those last RPMs, and probably should have been the first issue to correct, had he left his props at 22 X 23 he would still be looking for more RPMs. He took off a quarter inch of diameter and one and a quarter inch of pitch.....and.....according to his analog tachs, still "may" not be done yet....one motor only turned 2725! I certainly wouldn't be happy with 2725 knowing I had a clean bottom, clean aftercooler, etc, etc.....

DK still needs to confirm his tachs.....and I continue to contend that the analog tachs 'suck'......

I personally don't see where he wasted any time or money. DK became very familar with his boat and it's performance. He had some good maintenance performed and he, along others here, certainily learned a ton.....

I concur. I hate to criticize a guy who's working hard at perfecting his boat and making stuff better along the way.

D D,

I wasn't pointing any fingers, just agreeing with the above post. Now that I read back, I see what you mean. You weren't critical, but it was a little brash - just kind of makes a guy feel like he threw away a few thousand dollars for nothing, which I don't believe to be the case.

Just my 2 cents, but with all of the other things that you are checking out, how about the plugs? I would make sure ALL of the plugs are good.

Diesel....no plugs....assuming you are talking about spark plugs of course....

Does anyone with 4126 motors run an additive. My CAT guy says not to unless the boat sits alot, which mine does not. I remember seeing a thread at one time about some sold at Wal-mart that was good.

Short answer is ....yes. Since you are in Florida, Dr. Webster's techniques will work best for you.....as Frank H said, search and yee shall find....

Glad the trip went smoothly. That's always a plus when trying to get the crew to go next time...
Leaving today for the holiday weekend. In the last three days the pressure water pump and the A/C circulating pump failed (that's boating, right?). Replaced them yesterday, at least it happened before we left...

Pics, please :) !!!
