Has anyone ripped out the ugly overhead pod and put a flat screen in? I am in Newport RI and would love to remove that "pod" and upgrade to a 22 to 26 inch screen, especially since we now have cable.

I am the new owner of a 400SB - same as DB? - Sedan Bridge 1997.
I pulled both combo TV/VHS analog units out.
I installed a 22" flat screen on a piece of Black starboard and attached it to the face of the module using a piano hinge across the top and gas cylinders on the sides to hold it up.
My boat has a lower helm and no place to conveniently store adult beverages....so... the nice empty space that the old TV/Combo sat in - behind the new flat screen works just fine.
I'm going to build an egg-crate type divider system to hold bottles in place.
The draw back...I use satellite and have to open (lift up flat screen)to operate salellite control box.
My first thought was to remove the whole box .... but found that the interior headliner and back wall had been painted black and I didn't feel it was possible to completly remove the paint.
As for the forward stateroom. I'm putting a door with side hinges (like other euro hinges on the stateroom doors) made out of Oak and stained to match other wood work on the TV opening. I will build shelves and gain a nice storage area for clothes, shoes etc.
Hope some of this babbeling helps!

Jon,

We just completed the same mod to our 400DB. Our boat is located at the NAVSTA Newport, RI. Give me a call and I'll let you come aboard and see the installation.

Only the very best,
MV2

Is there a possibility that you could post some pics of your modifications. I have the same 400SD.
